Worst defeat following SUFC

Losing to Donny in the FA Cup at home 1-0 (I don’t think they had won in 3 months or something) Nov 98.

Grimsby away..

Losing on penalties in the English final of the Anglo-Italian Cup at Notts County in 1994 was a huge disappointment at the time. We had done enough to win it and earn a place in the final against Brescia.

This does not mean I think we will lose Sunday, but what's the worst defeat as a Southend fan you have ever experienced ?
Mine has to be in 1987 away to Gillingham where we lost 8-1, to top it off i got spat on through the metal fence 😆 🤣
Friday Feb. 7th.1970 is etched in my mind forever Workington 5, Southend United 0. Att.1,790. This match was part of a rather forgettable period of my time following the team away from home. Between 06/09/69 through to the 18/03/70 we played 20 away matches winning just 1, 2-0 at Colchester in November and losing the other 19 matches, scoring 10 and conceding 50 goals.

8-0 away at Palace in the league cup. I think Ian Wright got a hatrick and I think Mark Bright got a couple too.

The 2nd leg we lost at 2-1 at roots hall.
I recall we started cheering after the 6th goal - I'm not 100% certain but sure it rained as well towards then end adding to the misery in the open corner terrace we were allocated.

Away Hull City in the Chumpionship year. Did we even touch the ball...
I was wondering if anyone else would remember this one. As bad a performance as I've ever seen from us. Worst performance definitely.

Worst feeling? Been many but probably Grimsby after ref ended it early. Never felt so deflated

The 3-0 defeat to Col Ewe on (not so) Good Friday in 2007. It confirmed there was only one direction we were going, sadly.
Was fuming after this one.

Personally the 5-0 at Oxford (mentioned above) was the worst but we took some hammerings away that season.

Not the heaviest defeat, but the away game vs MK Dons at the old open air stadium about 20 years ago. It was P**ing down, freezing and I had to hide from my ex father in law in McDonalds before the game. Was so cold and fed up I only remember we lost, think it might have been 3-1.

In person, I think the away to Morecombe to miss out on autos.
Remember rocking up to wolves away once 10 mins late and think we were 3 0 down before we got in the stands 😞

That was mine too - it’s the only time I’ve left a game early. We were 7-0 down at the time and I heard the cheer for the eighth goal as I was walking down the street!

Worst one in person was the 7-1 at home vs Doncaster. Left that game feeling like we were spiralling down as a club, the following years proved we were.

Dover in the FA Cup was just as rotten although thankfully wasn't there, with one of our centre backs spotted in the bar with Dover players too.

During the COVID year, Col Ewe all but securing our relegation to the NL beating us 2-0 at their ground.
