Worst Player

HUTTON

Guest
As there is nothing else much going on i just wondered who your worst player every to pull on the great team colours was.

Tho i haven't really seen many players at the Hall apart from the current and the past 2 seasons, my grandad was always going on about a player called Trevor Whymark, the lazy this the lazy that.

Could be more controversial and say who the worst player in the current team is....

Eric Steele- Worst goalkeeper ive ever seen at the Hall

Worst outfield player has to be Richard Young

Could be more diplomatic and say who is the least good player in the current team !

Whilst Connelly was certainly poor, he could at least control a football. We've had a fair few who were unable to even manage this simple task.

We have had some shocking players - Barrington Belgrave, Tony Richards, Francisco Cagigao, Roger Willis, Carl Emberson ... so much pony, hard to choose.

Like Joe Alton, abysmal. Worst player ever. The only player ever to come on as a substitute in the first half and be substituted 15 minites later. Best days work Barry Fry done when he realised what a t%$&*r he was.

When I lived in Exeter, Richard Young was considered the David Fairclough of the west country. He came on and scored a goal, whether it was with a foot, head, dick, arse he was a genuine goalscorer. As soon as he set foot in Roots Hall he couldn't score if his life depended on it. First time I saw him run out in a Southend shirt I said to a couple of pals 'you watch this lad, garanteed goal' 20 minutes later im getting kicked all over the stand because of his s%&te footballing skills and my mis-timed singing of his praises. Bruises are still visable.

Joe Allon - and I think there was more to that whole thing than meets the eye.

He scored a shed-load of goals for I think Hartlepool and Brentford before joining us on loan - and lets be honest, does anyone remember how he did in that game Fry took him off in?

He couldnt have been that bad to be subbed within 30 mins of coming on and never seen again.

Love to know what that was all about!

Was Joe Allon involved in an altercation with Andy Ansah ?
Something about a glass in a nightclub ....allegedly..

Steele, Prudhoe,Southall,
Ramsey, Young, Walsh, Whymark,
Belsveg, Jones, O Callaghan, Livett,

The list goes on...

I seem to recall a coloured lad we got from Grays ? (loan ?) ten or so years ago I can't remember his name at all, Is my age finally getting to me or was he that shocking ?

Think the bloke from Grays was called Mickey Welch, and Moore signed him, maybe wrong as my memory fades, but you are right he was hopeless.

Freeman, Emberson, Dudley, Walker (so bad he left to become a copper) Dave Young (og at Derby), Whymark, Westley, Abbott, Kellock, Skivington. The list could go on forever.

Miguel De Souza? I think we got him on loan from Dagenham (or he went there after being released) about ten years ago.

Who was Walsh? And which Jones?

ps If it was Micky Welsh that was 20 years ago!

No, no, no.

Shane wasnt the most gifted on ball playing players, However like dave martin and paul clark would always win a ball and defend as if his life depended on it.

OK i admit that if he had spent less time in TOTS he may have been a bit more of an asset but that doesnt make him a bad man

Surprised at the mention of Neil Freeman, who was for me one of our best keepers...certainly up there with Cawston, Webster, Royce and Samson, not forgetting the current No.1 of course. Worst keeper had to be either Neville Southall or Mark Prudhoe, whose calamitous debut at home to Rochdale saw him let 3 goals in before half time. I agree with David Young's inclusion, absolutely awful, but what about Alan Foggon, Steve Hatter and Gary Shepherd (he used to take a comb on the pitch tucked down his sock!)
