I spent a couple of hours strolling around Southend on Saturday with my son and was amazed to see York Road market has shut down.

Can anyone tell me when this happened?

Is Victoria Shoes still hanging in there? If so, surely it must now be the longest surviving shop in Southend Central?

Anyone know what happened to that crappy scoreboard that used to be at Vic Circus?

I went in there Saturday because they used to admire they type of cream/off white cuban heeled of slip ons with gold chains and fancy leatherwork in which they used to specialise.

Unfortunately they have gone all contemporary and Southend is a poorer place because of it.

Fields on Hamlet Court Road is still flying the flag of quality footwear. With its excellent range of Gabicci polo shirts, it's a one stop shop for the man who wants to dress like an extra from 'The Long Good Friday'.

I used to love Gumby's for rare vinyl, still have a few bits I picked up in there.

Some of the merchandise in Victoria Shoes made the likes of John Gotti look like they were wearing orthapedic shoes in comparison.
