Scottish Independence

Scottish independence - Yes or No?

  • Total voters
    34
  • Poll closed .
So what's your meaning behind posting that clip? Are you suggesting that, that's how the Scottish feel about their self's or was it the bit about the English being described as ******s. I can guess what your meaning is.

To be fair he has spoken to 3 people so he is an expert on the whole yes no thing.
Good luck every body its the big day and after spending a few days with 3 sweatys im in the maybe camp although they were proud that it has not all gone titsup with fighting and the like,as one said NOT A SHOT HAS BEEN FIRED and that is a good thing.

To be fair Kay Burley is a hideous, odious woman. She's apologised for it, so it's probably fair to say she did call a Yes campaigner a knob. Yet another piece of unprofessionalism from that bitter hag.

You're fully entitled to attack Kay Burley for her unprofessionalism-FWIW, I'm not much of a KB fan,either-(though I like her looks)- but not to make sexist, misogynistic comments about her.

Am I really the only person on SZ who finds this sort of thing offensive?

Actually,I talked to a few exiled Scots this summer at the British Council about the referendum too but those three,(living in Glasgow), made more of an impression on me.
I'm no expert on the referendum situation but have been following it quite closely since Easter and do have an opinion on it.

Both terms can be equally applied to a man (c.f Alex Salmond, David Cameron, Bill O'Reilly etc). Stop fishing.

If you'd called her a hack or hackette (Private Eye) I'd agree with you.

But I've never heard Salmond etc called a "hag".

FYI, "A hag is a wizened old woman."

Ok, ok, back on topic please. Pubey might have used another term to refer to the disaster zone that is Kay Burley, but this is no biggie.

Indeed, I could have worded my hatred better. My bad.

Going to be an interesting day today. Anyone else thinking about staying up tonight?

It is so interesting to watch this unfold. As a proud Englishman I will feel undoubtedly slighted by a 'yes' vote (althought the hundred quid off of Paddy Power will help). But as I said the other day, I can't honestly say that I'd not want to vote 'yes' if I was Scottish. I feel so disenfranchised and dissillusioned with the UK system of Government. To be given a chance to start again and set up a new way of Governing would be massively attractive to me.

Obviously there's huge downsides to a 'No' vote and it shouldn't really be about a protest vote at the British Government as there's too much on the line for all of us but whatever happens this needs to be the shake up that British politics needs.

The interesting thing for me was the speech by Gordon Brown that I saw on the news last night. Ignore what side of the argument he's on, the speech itself was fantastic. It was full of passion and power. It was everything he wasn't when he was PM.

read a paper in Germany, the other day. They wrote Scotland wants freedom, like the English are a colonial power...Today on bayern 1, Bayerns main radio station, a British_scottish "expert",said the English-Scottish people arecompletely different !!The Scottish people are nice !!!,they dont like the English politics, which are right wing & getting even more extreme, the scottish peoples society are far more socially even.(more socialist)..wonder if he is correct? not sure, most jocks i know are like the Germans, very patriotic

Amazing turnouts being reported - some polling stations closing early as everyone had voted!

NO price getting ever shorter now - the YouGov poll results due to be announced shortly should give us our best indication yet.

Just to clarify it wasn't actually an exit poll, but an online 'on the day' poll of people who've voted.

In a lot of ways a 'No' win is a Labour Party win as the current government pretty much stepped aside and let Labour MPs lead the campaign. Cameron can be seen as setting up the uncertainty and then offering the earth and letting Labour head up the cavalry. I think this will effect the general election.

A lot of talk about all the concessions that Scotland are going to get is going to force serious debate about devolution for England. What a total balls up.
