When club signs an ageing injury prone player then the gamble is increased 10 fold.

Harris,Fred,Barney,Freedman to name just four were all spectacular gambles which all backfired!

Fred when he returned here his career was coming to an end,yet Ron threw a 2 year deal at him.
Harris had niggling injuries aplenty and his career was ending, yet Ron threw 2/3 deal at him
Ditto Freedman.
Barney had hardly played any football,he returned here and failed to score from open play and was generally terrible.

One mistake is fair enough
Two mistakes is stupid
3 mistakes is truly bizarre
4 mistakes is unbelievable

Now Noel,is he mistake number 5?

You're such a ray of sunshine with your always optimistic outlook on life aren't you!

Other than Corr leaving it's been quite a remarkable summer so far. I'd given up on Timlin when 10 clubs were interested including his team Millwall, but we managed to pull that one off. Rumours of Ipswich interested in Coker will hopefully be met by him signing a 3 year deal for us. Mooney looks like a very astute signing and Wordsworth was a huge coup, and now beating Chicago Fire to the signing of Noel.

As others have said you can say what you want about Phil but he's superb at bringing in talent, creating a great environment and keeping players here.

Anyway back to Noel, welcome to the club!
Timlin Corr and Bentley were already here, this season will tell us how good Brown really is.

Mrsblue unusually makes a valid point, it is a gamble, particularly if the player is just looking for a last good deal and then ambles along due to old injury restrictions. Barney and Freddy had brilliant first spells with us but subsequently it was embarrassing to watch them go through the motions.
Hopefully Hunt will do well, and I certainly wish him well.

Some of the football last season wasnt great but pretty football doesnt always win games.
PB knows how to setup a team and makes us hard to break down and beat.
He comes across as very determined and has the mentality of a Championship/Premiership manager if there is such a thing, hence his ability to identify quality players and persuading them to stay or sign for us.

Would rather have a small squad of quality than quantity, i think we will finish top half

Freedman's previous 6 seasons before signing:

2001/02 - 44 appearances in Div 1 (AKA Championship)
2002/03 - 34 appearances in Div 1 (AKA Championship)
2003/04 - 40 appearances in Div 1 (AKA Championship)
2004/05 - 23 appearances in the Premier League
2005/06 - 41 appearances in the Championship
2006/07 - 37 appearances in the Championship/League 1

Neil Harris' previous 6 seasons before signing:

2007/08 - 41 appearances in League 1
2005/06 - 45 appearances in League 1
2006/07 - 30 appearances in League 1
2007/08 - 43 appearances in League 1
2008/09 - 38 appearances in League 1
2009/10 - 30 appearances in the Championship

Now tell me those are the records of injury prone ageing player, but hey don't let facts get in the way of your agenda.

Maybe Prior, Sodje, Barrett and Goater were spectacular disasters too?
that means nothing.. They clubs let them go (freedman/Eastwood/Harris)for a reason, and the reason was right, they all flopped, and cost us loads...

Apparently we were after 18 year old Johnny Bloggs from Non League United who scored 60 goals in 40 appearances last season. He's been tipped to make the step up to League One with ease, is willing to play for peanuts, will be ours for £5k and no one else is interested.

Unfortunately we realised as we were about to complete the deal that this player doesn't actually exist, so we had to sign Hunt instead.

True story, not even lying.

So Freedman was let go because his club knew he'd get injured playing for us? As I recall he was pretty useful before the injury

What utter clap trap - AGAIN.

Freedman and Freddy both started their first seasons here well, with both winning thoroughly deserved Player of the Month awards. Freedman blamed himself for trying to force his way back too soon. Freddy's knee had been a problem that was well known about. Harris struggled with the set up, as did Barney, neither were played to their best advantage - and Barney was a long way from "terrible".

What about Goater? Was he a mistake too? Strikers often drop down a division or two towards the end of their careers - look at how well Jamie Cureton has performed. It's a risk with any player, not just because they're older.

It seems that mrsb and Kev29 are not too keen on giving our new boy any sort of slack or the benefit of the doubt over anything. That's their opinion, and they are entitled to it, even though he hasn't even got one of our scarves above his head yet. Only time will tell whether this is a good or a bad deal, and there will be plenty of time to discuss this as the season moves on. So now we know intimately what the pair of you think of Noel Hunt's signing, I, for one, would be grateful if you could park the rhetoric until we have seen a bit more of the deal. Otherwise it sounds as if you're repeating yourselves just for something to say.

Thanks both.

Your four heroes managed just 30 goals in a collective 192 appearances, dread to think how many came from open play possibly 20?,how much was the total wage spend for those paltry 30 goals? 100k a goal probably even more.
27 goals from open play.
Madness.

MrsBlue, I hope you weren't demanding a strikers signing last week because it would make you look quite stupid now.

who would you sign instead?

Great signing, cant see the formation changing though, can only really vision Mooney & Hunt playing as a pair if we fall behind in games

Ah the old 4-5-1 myth rears it's head again - how many times does it have to be pointed out that we played 4-4-2 for most of the second half of the season!!!

Huh.. You make me laugh.... All out of the three I mentioned, and that you can cling on to... Is player of the month... Oh dear... Look at the real stats, and what the three last pay days cost us.

Yes we all wanted a striker, yes MRS who would you have signed, apart from a 10 year deal for Williams..

whatever you think of MrsBlue, they are true facts, and they are 100% correct.

I think you'll find mrsblue often slants the facts to suit her own argument and then waits for the carnage to ensue as she's picked up on it by all and sundry.

Does anyone else suspect Kev29 could be the reincarnated wiggy? Because no-one has seen or heard a peep from wiggy since the play-off final and Kev29 only joined earlier this month. Plus wiggy was pretty much the only one to subscribe to mrsblue's often bizarre ramblings. No smoke without fire.... :whistling:

True, yet in 3 out of our final 4 games - including at Wembley of course - Brown still opted to start with 4-5-1.

She already said she wanted us to sign Sam Higgins, a 25-year old striker from East Thurrock United who has already failed a trial here several years ago under Sturrock. Just the kind of forward we need to be looking at if we're to do well in L1..... :whistling:

On a serious note I've read many a tweet from Ipswich fans this morning saying how Noel Hunt is far too good for L1, many were shocked he'd dropped to this level. In my opinion their first-hand views on a player they watched play Championship football for them last season carries a hell-of-a-lot more weight than certain grumpy trolls on here who've probably never seen him play in their life. Welcome Noel and good luck.
