An Evening with The Consortium

Justin Rees
Ian Redbourn
Gary Lockett
Paul Redbourn
John Watson

All consortium members

If you don’t know / recognise Gary Lockett then where have you been the past 20 odd years - used to own Insure & Go , is a board member, etc etc
Ta

I know the name of Gary locket and his previous at the club and insure and go. Just don't know the face.

TBH I don't think I'd recognise Frank van wezel or Michael Markscheffel either!

Michael Markscheffel

Sits right at the front of the directors box right behind the home bench and attends most home games.

Frank Van Wezel

Not seen him at too many games.

Michael Markscheffel, a tremendous gent. Drove me in his Rolls-Royce at my first wedding 50 years ago
You showed me a picture from that day, shame they did not do colour pictures that long ago.

Looking forward to this evening - are the Shrimpers Trust in dialogue with Justin about content that night? Has anyone seen an agenda?

The kind of things I’d be interested to know:

- if the takeover isn’t complete by that night, what specific critical steps are needed before it will happen and when are these likely to take place?

- who is in the consortium? Do they hold equal shares? (If not, who holds the biggest share?)

- what are the governance arrangements re: the football club following them taking over?

- what are their plans for redeveloping Roots Hall and what is the timetable for this?

- what are their plans for the new training ground and what is the timetable for this?

- what are their plans for the football set up - e.g. academy, b-team, ladies team?

- what are their plans for merchandising, especially the supply of replica kits and the club shop?

- is there an ongoing role for Stan Collymore at the club (other than being a flipping legend!) - if so what is it?

- what is their plan for the development of the first team and do they have targets for this season and next that they can share?

I’m sure others can add to this (and please nobody mention onions!)

Gary Lockett used to play in goal for my old Sunday side. Top guy. Was always travelling home and away to watch the Shrimpers then, and no doubt he does now. The sort of person we need as part of this consortium.

I would guess that they've booked it for the 25th in the hope the takeover would be done by then! Fingers crossed that's true, I'm still not 100% comfortable while it's still technically owned by RM

i'll second that. Either way, at least we're get the latest facts on 25th

Next to Justin is Ian Redbourn. Nice guy who I've spoken to a couple of times in the BB.

I now realise I've seen the guy on the right in the BB as well & he's John Watson.

Are you sure about the Redbourn’s being consortium members? They grew up locally and may be but haven’t been mentioned publicly as I recall.
Under the impression Tom Lawrence remains as Chief Exec and it is Justin Rees heading up the group with John Watson, Jason Brown, Gary Lockett, David Kreyling, Tom Arnold and rumours of George Taylor and a mystery Canadian. Any more and we’re going to need a bigger directors box!

Re Redbourns yup - Chris Phillips published it in the Echo and it has been posted on here many times

If you read a number of other posts, a few of us have met Ian Redbourn & he is definitely in the Consortium.

Without going through it all again Ian, his brother Paul & George Taylor went to school together in Southend & were at a social gathering when they decided they'd like to get involved.

Also I'm not really sure why the club would put them on their own website if they weren't involved. I'd find it a tad odd if they had people in the "Evening with the Consortium" photo that are not in the Consortium. But that might just be me.

1. What are their exit plans? It’s an important question not because we want to get rid of them but it will inform their plans for the club and how stable the structure is.
Justin in particular has talked about his interest being in the turnaround. What will the plan be after that? For those not intending to ever leave what are their succession plans?

2. What would success look like for each of them?

3. What is the plan for the Academy/reserves?

4. What is the one change they are each looking forward to making?

5. How much do ticket prices need to go up in order to make the club sustainable? (It’ll be interesting to see if they’d accept the premise of the question)

6. What are the plans for Roots Hall?

7. All-time SUFC XI (Justin gets a pass on this)?

7. Who put the ball in the Bury net?
