Brexit negotiations thread

Sky News journalist on Twitter:

Live on Sky News Tonight - new #BrexitForensics story as European Governments issue advice to their exporters not to use parts from Britain - Top car exec tells me “catastrophe” for UK auto
#rulesoforigin

Dutch Government official advice to its business community warns its manufacturers “if a large part of your product consists of parts from the UK” they may lose free trade terms for exports.

“After Brexit, parts made in UK no longer count towards this minimum production in EU”

Excellent news. Cars being one the biggest trade deficits with the EU, the harsher the sanctions the better for us. ,

Seeing as in the near future all cars will be electric or similar we could jump ahead of the EU. We wont have to worry about competition rules and could pump billions into a new and massive global industry. Here's an idea for Labour, whilst the rest of the EU drags its feet because the German car industry call the shots. We could be the first to go green and create thousands of jobs in the forgotten North. We could recruit the worlds best people for the job.

We have the world at our feet if only you could see it.

We are decades away from that being a reality. Only 2.6% of all cars in the UK are electric, and lets face it there's a myriad of vehicles that will probably never be electric.

That's probably a good bet.Meanwhile where is HMG's much vaunted white paper on its Brexit policy?
Worth checking Sam Coates Times and Laura Kuennesberg BBC tweets today.

Corbyn in PMQs asking where the promised government white paper on Brexit is, and getting no reply. More Labour and SNP questions on this - still no answer.

May and Davis due to have talks today and no 10 refusing to give any details.

Lots of background issues re customs that are unresolved.

Proposals due to be handed over to the EU this month still don't have Cabinet consensus.

Backstop reaction due to be published tomorrow and allegedly a fudge and Johnson and Davis not happy.

Some people concluding David Davisis about walk.

Been here before but the more time passes and the same issues are unresolved.....something has to give soon.

An idea for Labour? The Tories are in government. And recruiting the world's best people is not on the agenda - even the NHS are not allow to recruit doctors because May is still trying to hit unrealistic immigration targets. Its all about quantity and nothing about quality

For May, as it is for Corbyn, anything but biting the bullet. How long can it go on for???
Some things officially go unsaid but Labour can sit on the fence and offend fewer voters and let Brexit fall apart at the hands of the Tories. Labour policy is genius or foolhardy and we won't know which till a deal is signed and sealed with the EU or the Tories and Brexit collapse. It's a waiting game.

That was Labours immigration policy. Which as we know 80% of people think its utter nonsense. That's why we have Brexit.

Immigration has been consistently higher under the Tories than Labour. The difference is May / Cameron every year said they would reduce it to 100k and then made no attempt to. The only reason it has dropped over the last few months is that our stalling economy and the will they / won't they Brexit fiasco has put people off coming.

I thought Paul Mason's take on this ( written before the new policy was announced) was an interesting one.

Why would the Tories wont to solve it?....Every attempt to shift the blame by Labour because that's all you ever do, is another vote not going your way. You must have worked that out by now.

It is,of course,Tory policy to reduce immigration "to the tens of thousands." That is self-evidently, an unrealistic target/aspiration.It won't be achievable post-Brexit,either.Even the "hostile enviroment policy " at the Home office couldn't achieve it.

makes no sense

the Tories would want to 'solve' high immigration because they have been in power for 8 years and that was their stated policy

shift the blame for high immigration under the Tories away from Labour? It's not shifting the blame off Labour its just stating where the blame lies. Labour are responsible for high levels of immigration when they were in power. Tories are responsible higher still levels of immigration when they are in power.

It's not a difficult concept.

.

It is for Labour and its supporters who bully any discussion on the subject. That's why you have already lost the next GE....Keep up the good work lots of people are counting on you.
