Films you've watched recently.

Enjoyed The Money Monster with George Clooney and Julia Roberts

How easy to manipulate a companies stock price, not quite Wall Street but very enjoyable and good ending

A Street Cat Named Bob - true story how a drug addict is helped to recover by a bit of pussy. 7/10

The Prestige - 9/10 - Bale and Jackman with Caine are all excellent. Really good story about magicians, massively far fetched but a really enjoyable film! The ending is brilliant too will have you shocked! Also a great little cameo from the late great David Bowie, who pulls off his accent excellently. A must watch 2 hours of film I really enjoyed.

La La Land - sorry TUIB, it's absolutely fantastic. Wonderful music, great story - I'm at a loss to understand why you wouldn't like it. 10/10

Mrs Drastic went to see it, she's a huge musical & old hollywood fan, and she was underwhelmed. She said it was good but not up to the hype. And added she thought Rogue One was better. #marriagewin

See that's the thing, I enjoyed Rogue One for what it was, but when Mrs MK wanted to watch LLL I was suitably underwhelmed but you do these things in a relationship.....but much to my surprise I absolutely loved it and it's really made a huge mark on me. As I said previously I really think it'll be in my top 10 of all time.

Saw Ocho Apellidos Vascos (Eight Basque Surnames ) and the more recent Ocho Apellidos Catalanes (Eight Catalan Surnames) the other night.

Neither was nominated for a Goya (Spanish Oscars) but they're both extremely funny and very good on regional sterotypes in Spain (including Andalucia).

Well worth seeing if you get the chance.

T2 Trainspotting. The gang is back together in a sequel you didn't know you needed until it was here. Just about avoids being nostalgia porn, but the soundtrack was a disappointment. A solid 8/10.

Hacksaw Ridge - 10/10 - Absolutely outstanding! What Desmond Doss did was an act of pure heroism. He strived through adversity and all the **** he had to put up with. The man was a true hero and the film is excellent. I don't care if it's been over dramatised for Hollywood the man played by Andrew Garfield deserves to be depicted in that way because I cannot stress how amazing Desmond Doss was. If this doesn't do well at the Oscars then there is seriously something wrong with humanity!

I've served in Afghanistan and currently still serving and have nothing but the utmost respect for every single one of those guys. We thought things were hard in Afghan! That's on another level.

Watch this film, if you like Band of Brothers/ The Pacific it's a film like that sort of style. Well done Mel Gibson.

Manchester By The Sea.Excellent film which restores (my) faith in Oscar nominated movies.

Yes,it was good but had some issues.

The music, especially during *that* scene, didn't fit the scenes. Kind of ruined the film.
The teenage kid didn't seem bothered about losing his father.

Overall 8/10, but far from best picture at the Oscars.

Paterson.I've heard it described asa masterpiece. It's not.But Jim Jarmusch fans (like me) will like it.BS won't.:winking:

I LOVED it! Intelligent, witty, uplifting..........cupcakes and poetry..........worth it just to see Nellie, who was postumously awarded the Palm Dog Award at Cannes. The wife also went to see La La Land and Jackie...........I abstained!

Perhaps not-haven't seen Moonlight yet.But I'd expect Manchester to do well at the BAFTA's tonight along with I,Daniel Blake.Expect a bit of Trump bashing from the luvvies too.:winking:

Low key as most (if not all) Jarmusch's films are.Think you made the right film choice though.:winking:

Watched 'Eddie the Eagle' on Netflix this afternoon.

Cheesie as hell, but feel good story of Eddie Edwards from disabled school kid to Olympic hero. Similarities to Cool Runnings, main character Eddie well played by Taron Egerton.

7/10

Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone
My first ever exposure to Potter - really enjoyed it, although I'm still a little bemused by the extent of it's popularity. I thought it was a decent story, it looks nice but is surprisingly dated already (maybe that's intentional), and Emma Watson is really annoying (again, maybe that's intentional) but I'll plough ahead with the rest of the series, I'm intrigued to see where it all goes.
7/10
