 Love the image of a groundsman chasing people off with a pitchfork!

It actually happened, as many on here have mentioned it when talking about that famous game. It rained all day long. The game was the most boring 0-0 ever, hardly a shot for either side, probably due to conditions. Anyway, before the match, the older Southend lot have pushed the large gate down outside the South Bank, and everyone piled in and across the pitch to take residence in their North Bank. But as we got near the center circle, the groundsman started to try and stab us with his pitchfork.

Quality! .. As you say, nowadays he would have lost his job and been investigated, but back then if you went on the pitch, then it was fair game to be chased off.

Same with Plod. Mark Coshever was banned for life on video evidence, whereas back in the 70's, he'd have just been half-nelsoned out of the ground, to live to fight another day!

All was fair in love and war!

Meanwhile, back to today's game, this is well winnable. We're on a great run and full of confidence. They're the opposite. Come on Southend, every 3 points is massive until the end of the season.

Gillingham is never easy, added to that we seem to occasionally cursed when we travel in big numbers.

That being said, i'm still going for a gritty 2-1 win, with Cox & Ranger bagging the goals for us.

If we can win today and Sheff Utd, as they should, beat Bolton we will only be 2 points behind the Trotters (although they will still have 2 games in hand).

Any snapshots of "Shrimpers on tour in Gillingham" ? please :winking:

I've always felt that.

Every time, in the past, when we took huge numbers, we seemed to lose.
