Shaun Goater

Have to aggree sheer class yesterday PLEASE PLEASE reconsider Goat ! Just even a few months at the start of next season would be a huge signing for us. Anyone agree ??

I take it all back - I had written him off months ago but today he was different gravy. A sterling performance I though.

to be honest i think tilly has already found goaters replacement, his name is bradbury.

but is was a superb performance by all of the front men yesterday. goater, eastwood, bradbury and gower all attacked well, and played some nice following football at times. glad i made the trip back to southend

I also thought "the Goat" had, had enough over the last few games but his presence seems to lift the team especially Freddy. As already stated the banter between them was great to see, and "that" corner was a joy to watch and be part of from the S/upper. i think the goat would have gone mental if that had gone in. I dont think his legs can carry him for another season and i think he should be admired for knowing enough is enough. And dont forget pre-season would probably kill him.

The Goat was just sublime yesterday. He won't stay unfortunately, because it looks like we are going up as Champions. Who wouldn't want to sign off a glittering career playing for a club that may well be champions, after personally having a successful season and against one of your old clubs on the last day of the season?
If we were a mid-table bore, he may want to play on, but this ending should be perfect for the man, and I for one, however much I would love him to give another year a crack, cannot begrudge him for choosing to go out this way.
Plus...I'm not sure I want him to have a bad season next year. He has given me too many memories this year (THAT dance at Yeovil, THAT turn yesterday, THAT goal against Col U to name but 3) for them to be tarnished by a half-arsed season.
The Goat = Legend.

it would be great to see him sign off with a goal (or two) to send us up as champtions against Bristol City. The fairytale ending to a great career.

Goosebumps and a lump in my throat just thinking about it.

That was his best performance for us yesterday in my opinion. Won lots in the air, held up the ball superbly and linked up with Freddy well. Those 2 are looking like a great partnership. Goater deserved a goal for his efforts yesterday, absoloutely class!

Couldn't agree with that more really. I remember seeing Ian Rush carrying on a few years ago when he was so clearly off the pace that it became laughable watching him play. That certainly tarnished my memory of a once great striker.

There have been occasions this year that I thought the Goat was as good as gone. On the other hand, on days like yesterday, when the team play to his strengths (i.e. ball to feet for him to hold up and link the play), he looks great.

The Goater was man of the match easily yesterday, the best bit for me was his keep ups. The guy is an absolute legend and was the best performance I've seen by anyone in a Southend United shirt that didn't score. Had that header gone in the place would have erupted. He was at his best without a shadow of a doubt!

Long live the Goat!!

Its really great to see Shaun (or Leonard) enjoying himself so much in the last few games of his illustrious career.

I feel extremely honoured that he has chosen to end it here, with us. He must be so glad that Tilly/Brush talked him out of retiring after the Reading debacle.

Lets all get behind the lads for the next 7 games & give The Goat the dream ending he deserves to his footballing career.

Imagine it, 0-0 in the 89th against Bristol. We get a corner & this time Goater sees his header nestling in the bottom corner; to secure the Championship.

(By the way, Wiggy. We can see you sneaking out...

That is a hell of a tribute. Do you have a link to that, SM?

Hi. I know that hundreds of City fans are coming to the game with Bristol City, I am for one. If you want to see posts on the subject, you can go onto www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk, register and you will see some of it there. You will be very welcome I’m sure. There are already a few Southend fans that have been on and done your team a lot of credit.

To be honest I can't wait for the game. I've always looked out for the Shrimper's scores since you played at Maine Road a few years back. Your performance that day didn't warrant the scoreline and really impressed me how you tried to play football.

Anyway, since you signed the Goat, my all-time idol - we signed him when I was 14 - Southend have virtually turned into a second team! It's great to see you where you are and I really hope I'm there to see you lot go up as Champions. Rest assured that any other City fan going has similar sentiments.
