I'm not a technician but it may be to do with size. Previously on the old site if you magnified the an avatar it would be as fuzzy as some on here are now. The avatars now are bigger than they were on the old site and therefore maybe need to be reduced a bit, if that is technically possible.
I've just had a look on the area where you can change your avatar and it says:
It is recommended that you use an image that is at least 400x400 pixels.
Whilst replying I had a warning that I had posted to early within 9 seconds

Yep, I would just try to find the image on Google with the closest pixels above 400x400 and then just resize on photo gallery down to the optimum size.
Picture quality seems to be fine doing that.
Appreciate that's not always possible if the only image available is either very large or very small in the first place.
Is it possible to do polls on the new site?
It's exactly this.
or one cant be arsed .....
Never could understand the keenness on avatars. I come on here to read and write stuff about Southend United, not to look at pictures, usually of questionable relevance.
Office mode works for me (even though I haven't been near an office for ages!).
If anyone's main concern is avatars that is itself evidence of what a good job the guys have done migrating the site. Well done indeed !!
I think a few more posters focussing on the content of the post rather than who it's been written by might be a good thing? Also I quite like the avatar-less version because it brings the poster name in line with the top of the post.Cheers Mick.
I kinda like having the avatars personally - mainly in that they can clearly identify the messenger as much as the message. But, as you say, each to their own and so long as everyone is getting an experience that suits them, job largely done!

Office skin is definitely a good thing for us open-planners... although I've got 2 more weeks before I become a remote worker from my own little space.
@Cricko should be able to sort that for you. Finally here! Had to come thru the FB page as main site wasn't letting me into the forum! Then had no idea of my password and it didn't recognise my current email address so I've lost the "the" ... oh well!
