Pre-Match Thread Southend United v Stockport County

No PS pre-match preview on Blues Player.................not yet anyway. What am I going to do without my weekly fix of "like I say" and socks being worked off? Oh!................. and welcome to the board Harry!....hope you enjoy the match.

Looking forward to the players having there names on the back of the shirts so I don't have to keep guessing who they are.

Would be nice to get a win but I will be happy with a good performance for now until the team is settled. 1-0 with a crowd of just over 4,000

I'll be coming along to the game, probably feeling a bit odd as it will be the first Southend game I've been to for a long time. If I remember rightly, Barry Fry was the manager last time I came to Roots Hall. It's going to feel really weird.

On the plus side, I'm used to watching my local non-league side, so this will feel like a great big occasion and a massive crowd to me, whatever happens. :)

Welcome back then - and to the board too!

2-0 win for me, I think they're buzzing and eager to get out there and do the business. Paterson for one, not sure about the other, Bilel or Phillips possibly.

2003 - Southend 2-0 Cheltenham - 17TH
2004 - Southend 0-2 Cheltenham - PROMOTED
2005 - Southend 1-2 Port Vale - CHAMPIONS
2006 - Southend 1-0 Stoke - RELEGATED
2007 - Southend 1-2 Leyton Orient - PLAY OFFS
2008 - Southend 1-0 Peterborough - 8TH
2009 - Southend 2-2 Huddersfield - RELEGATED

So defeat equals success and picking up any points generally means failure. I'll go for us to lose 1-0!

Also interesting to note it's been 8 years since we were away on the first day of the season.

we bossed that game. we could have won by 7. I thought Drewe and Husbands with Odunsi behind were the future. Oh dear.

Hoping for a win, as it would be a great time to introduce my 4 year old nice to the wonderful game we call football and supporting the Blues, my guess would be arround the 5000 mark, with bigger attendances if we do well

Odds for Saturday...

Southend 11/10 (bet365, BlueSq, BetFred)
Draw 12/5 (betFred, BlueSq, Stan James, Ladbrokes)
Stockport 11/4 (Ladbrokes)

The draw looks pretty good value to me.

We're well overdue a draw in the opening game of the season plus everything points to us being difficult to score against and struggling to score. Like in the opening round of the world cup, both teams are likely to be happy with a draw.

I'm also tipping no goalscorer to be the new Mark Gower as first goalscorer bet this year.

No goalscorer gets better odds than a 0-0.

Didn't we draw against 'Udders last year first match?

Apart from wycombe oxford gillingham barnet and a promotion/relegation rival, i cant see us getting above 8k this season.

We have to realise that the fingers of a lot of people have been burnt and alot of people do not want to watch league 2 football.

Not everybody shares the passion for the club that our fellow zoners and myself feel

Barnet? meh?
