The referee for tomorrow's match against what Sturrock describes as "dangerous opposition" will be Michael Naylor travelling down from Sheffield for his first Southend match.
He is in his second season, his first passing without too much ado. He was given a couple of Championship matches so marks must have been at least reasonable. His first season card count was low.
Before getting onto the League List he refereed the Blue Square play-off final which saw Oxford's return to League football.
This season he has shown a somewhat high 26 yellows and 2 reds in 6 games but 11 of the yellows and both reds came in one match, Notts County v Tranmere and at least one of the reds was for handball on the goal-line! Take that match away and his stats are average this season.
Assisting will be three regular visitors to the Hall: Ian Cooper from Rochester and Gary Evetts from Hertford are running the lines with Warren Atkin from Crawley doing the 4th Official stuff.
