we will have to play donnelly as we can not get any more players in due to being skint, hence the appearence yesterday and dont be surprised to see him start on saturday, hope he comes in and smashes it

Apart from the fact he's cup tied and even if he wasn't his loan spell has ended.

Im a tad confued re Donnelly. PS says that he likes him, Donnelly says he wants to stay, yet this morning PS said that he cant sign him unless someone leaves, yet Donnelly was here whilst Tam was and he has now left. Also PS says he hopes to sign someone before Saturdays game...am i the only one confused about this?

I don't think it's inconceivable that we operated at a higher budget over the busy Christmas period with the intention to drop back down afterwards. It's a slightly strange use of funds though.

Also Laird has also signed permanently - were we paying 100% of his wages when he was on loan? Ditto Assombalonga - are we paying the same amount of his wages now he's been extended? Did we have to pay a signing-on fee or a loan-fee respectively?

Perhaps Millwall were paying Tam's wages and they were literally allowing us to borrow him just to get him fit and back into form. If this were the case then Tam's departure wouldn't make a difference.

The fact that we could afford to pay him whilst Tam was here and not now though is a little confusing. Perhaps the permanent signing of Laird has added to our wage bill meaning we can't now afford Donnelly?

I'd imagine this has everything to do with the Wage Cap, which stands at 60% of turnover. We probably weren't paying everything of Mkandawire's wage when he was here, whereas we've now taken on Laird's wage in its entirety. For Donnelly to sign full-time we'd have to make room within that 60% figure, so someone else will have to leave - either permanently or on loan - to make that room.

There may be room in the budget to sign someone on loan, paying something like 30-50% of his wage.

Not sure we need Donnelly. A defensive centre mid and another wide player would seem all we need, and clear out Benyon and maybe a couple of others.
