Feel a bit sorry for Kane if truth be told. Looked set to have a really bright future in the game but hasn't carried on progressing and has probably gone a bit backwards since leaving us. League Two to Championship looks to be a bit of a bridge too far for him.

Always really rated him though so who knows where we'd be now if he'd stayed. He'd also have well over 100 games under his belt and probably a fair few goals too. Maybe jumped ship a bit too early.

Never thought he was all that, but, had a nack of popping up with a fair few goals from midfield, something we've lacked in the seasons since his departure (not counting wingers). Ok, Lenny gets a few a season. Must have lost his way a bit or become a bit disillusioned after it didn't work out for him at Peterborough.

I always thought he looked comfortable on the ball, in the way you sometimes see players down in L2 and they stand out for that very reason, like they've got space & time. I admit I thought he'd do ok at L1 or even Championship level after leaving us. Oh well shows what I know!

So much crap spoken

When we had him we has literally a kid. He was fast, worked hard, tackled well and scored goals at a rate of one in six. How people can slate him is beyond me. We sold him for less I think than he was worth at the time and he has suffered by not playing much but I personally think he was a class act.

Absolutely this. A shame his career has stalled.

Totally agree. Think a few others here at a similar time may have been a bad influence on him also, don't know how much that may have affected him at Peterborough. Also thought he settled in alright there in the beginning under Fergie Jnr. Not sure why or how it went wrong for him.

Yep, Ferdinand stood out like a sore thumb in League Two as being one of the very few players to have the kind of mental attributes you'd expect from a player educated far higher up the leagues, and we haven't had a midfielder with the ability and awareness to ghost into the box unmarked since. Much like Blair Sturrock, I think a lot of the attributes he brought to the side were under appreciated in the sense that he excelled in the intangibles, he wasn't quick, powerful, tough-tackling or capable of spraying 60-yard Hollywood balls, but he'd go about his business in a calm and assured manner and his awareness, anticipation and understanding were a real asset.

It's also easy to forget that Peterborough weren't the only club interested in him at the time. Forest were very fond of him and there's a great snippet in Michael Calvin's The Nowhere Men which tells the story of Sturrock ringing them up to shop him there so we could pay a tax bill. Peterborough's turned out to be quite the toxic environment the last few seasons as MacAntony's got increasingly involved/erratic, but he was impressive at Cheltenham last season so hopefully he finds a good enough development environment this summer.

Great book.
