Great news that RTVE will be showing one match per week on freeview TV from La Liga and one of each round of Copa del Rey, if only the Premiership and the BBC could do that!

Not so great for "socios" who find they're expected to turn up for games on weekdays (at very short notice and at inconvenient times when you're working).

Luis Suarez saves Barcelona in a very dull opening weekend so far in La Liga with 2 goals from open play 6 games in.

How can it be dull, when Espanyol won yesterday against Getafe (to go second in the table, according to this morning's El Pais). :winking:

It was a brillant free-kick btw by Salva Sevilla.

Was a top free-kick! Though 2nd when only two sides have won is less impressive...!

Ha! I'm afraid that's about as good as it will get for Espanyol this season.Have you seen their fixture list for August/September?

Away at Villarreal next week then home to R.Madrid and Valencia, plus away to R. Sociedad too.Not many points to be had there.

Curiously, it seems that whoever we play, you play the following week (i.e. we had Villarreal this week, you have them next)

Not something I've noticed before; is that 'normal'?

A tough result on Espanyol tonight, seems they will be lucky to pick many points up over the next few weeks, though they'll be looking to make up for lost ground in October with some easier ties.

Espanyol are playing Real Madrid this pm (same KO time as as game with Shrewsbury.

Frankly, can't see Espanyol getting anything from the game ( they haven't won against RM for 8 years now).

(FWIW,I think we'll get a point against the Shrews).

It was almost painful to watch for a spell in the first half!

Heading to Valencia vs Betis next weekend, who both got their first wins of the season yesterday with 1-0 victories over Sporting and Sociedad respectively. €12 for a ticket almost makes you laugh when you look at Premiership prices.

If it had been a boxing match, it would have been stopped after 20 minutes with RM already 4-0 up.

You'll enjoy the Mestalla Stadium. It's a good old-fashioned ground right in the centre of town.I have wonderful memories of Espanyol lifting the Copa del Rei there.

Espanyol have a mid-week game against Valencia the week after next.Don't fancy their chances to much after yesterday.:'(

Nor at Real Sociadad next Saturday for that matter.Relegation looms.Espanyol lost 5 key players over the summer (only one of whom they had no control over,Lucas Vasquez ceeded back to RM. who came on as sub for them yesterday).Their replacements don't look in the same league.

Some good news for Espanyol fans, perhaps (?).Their away match with Real Sociedad is on the box tonight.

Will be interesting to see new signing Diop play. Also one or two other new faces after last week's debacle.

I hope you're not a gambler!

As you said, the Mestalla is a great ground with a lot of history and very intimate being so close to the pitch. Only negative of that is quite how steep the stands are at the top where I was sat!

Valencia were poor against Betis and I'm not surprised that they lost last night either, if Rodrigo can be playing Champions League football then Blair Sturrock can't be far off. Will be interesting to see how they do on Friday night at home to Granada, which they should win on paper, but the last 2 games they've looked like they could play for weeks without scoring.

Quite a few on here reckon I'm not!

Thought Valencia played well last night in what was a wonderful open game of football-especially in the second half.If Espanyol can play like that every week then maintaining their current number 6 spot may not be beyond them.Have to agree that Valencia didn't really look like scoring though and was suprised Negredo (on the subs bench) didn't feature.

Asensio is a wonderful player-unfortunately Espanyol have only got him on loan from RM for one season.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to the Mestalla.I'll also be seeing Fulham and us this week.Been some time since I've caught three games in a week.

Espanyol are away to some southern upstarts tomorrow night.:winking:

Could be a tricky game.

(Edit)The game's live onthe box here -TV1.

Last time Espanyol were on the box live we won at Real Sociadad.Just saying like.:winking:

Well....at least we got a late 'consolation' goal :'(

Didn't see the game; Sky weren't covering it as Valencia were on at the same time. Probably for the best.

A night to forget for Espanyol tonight! Paco Jemez proving himself before the national side job becomes available?
