It doesn't sound like much of your post has anything to do with football - it was just violence (and using football as a hook to hang that violence on) that a small minority of people were involved with ........... without consideration or a thought towards the majority and of course to the detriment of the majority .......... and we (the majority) are still paying the price today for that.

Went there in 1801, with 100 peasents who worked on my various land's at the time with various weapons such as hatchets, cannons and one or two whenches to catch them off guard before the attack. In the end we killed 1500 Swindon fans, 300 of those captured taken back to Southend all bundled into carriages (good old horse) and taken to the Kursaal Estate and burnt at the stakes. If you go there now you will still find one or two red and white scarves lying about on the grass but in those days the old bill weren't too fussed as they where known as West Country bumpkin who deserved slaying.

Can't remember the score only it chucking it down all through the match/slaying and my old lady having the hump when i got home covered in claret. She soon calmed down when I presented her with a necklace made with Swindon fans teeth and a new ashtray used by chopping one of their hands off in the centre circle.

Hope that one didn't offend you Rattus me old mate but things happened back in the day.

Not offended by the content. Some of the spelling though ................ :'(

I got there at 11-30 yesterday morning, anyone beat that:winking:

Considering yesterday's performance, I bet in hindsight, that is one award you would'nt be proud to win.

Maybe we should start a new thread entitled "Swindon Who Left The Earliest?"

Went in the late 70's or early 80's. We got attacked up the open end and mayhem broke out on the terraces. A guy I still see around town, long hair, pony tail, goes to live music - well he just stood amidst the fighting shouting "I will not be intimidated".
I mentioned my memory to him at a jazz night last year - he just smiled. Still a peaceful hippy.
I was told Kev,that these problems at the 79 game was...revenge
On the wayto Derby 78(fa cup game), two coaches, one from Southend & one from Swindon, turned up,at the same time and a massive fight broke out, started by a bloke with long hair & a beard.Sadly a STFC fan got badly hurt,in fact myself and another blues fan dragged him into the toilets,to try and help him..but he was a hospital job..this "clash" between the 2 coaches ended up one way...the lad who was "bad" was,so i was told!!the brother of STFC leader or one of the main mob..the fans/coach of STFC got turned over so bad, that they wanted revenge..
That was what i was told....mad days...

No ,sadly both wrong:Mick was a tall lad from South Shields??A true great bloke.Helped me out many a time.

That Mick from South Shields. Did he used to wear a long dark coat, possibly a Crombie, and drink in The Nelson and Spread? Longish dark wavy hair. Really nice guy, but could handle himself.

Yes long dark Crombie, don't know about wavy hair, I think it was Bishop Auckland he came from not South Shields, used to support Sunderland but moved to Laindon with his parents as a teen. Spoke with a strong North east accent but went to Roots Hall and then to the Spread after that and he was hooked. I spoke to him a few years ago after Keiths death and he was still living in Basildon. I think he has a daughter in Northampton

His claim to fame was that he reckoned he was the first person to get off at Basildon station. Trouble was the station was in the process of being built and he jumped out as the train slowed through the station and fell right down the embankment.

I knew it was somewhere up the "north"...and i can believe that about the station...im sure you can as well...i loved his accent...like that "bird" C.Cole....im sure we can remember many a good time with both M.B & Gus..you a lot more than myself

Reckon he would have had some good banter with little Geordie fanatic Jimmy Cook, who was also around in those days!

Yep, that's him. His dark hair went wavy when everyone started growing their hair long in the Seventies. We always had a good chat, normally football related in one way or the other. He used to talk in that strong accent about Sunderland fans. He looked about 6ft 2ins to me. I really liked him. Nice bloke.

dont think he knew "little"Jimmy,as we did..but Jimmy would always "put on" a Geordie accent..his accent was the same as ours..till he went "north east".
As i wrote before,Jim was the only other bloke i knew, other than myself, who got arrested, twice in one day, while watching the Blues

Makes sense. The Swindon boys were definately up for it on the open terrace in '79. Shame about the Swindon lad who got hurt previous year.
78 at Derby was amazing. 76 too. I remember the Echo reporting the supporters club itself had 52 coaches and a train. Derby County were Champions of England - seems strange now.
Bruce Rioch should have been sent off. Tommy Docherty said he would have "kicked the Southend player into the stand". It was tougher then!
