Echo reporting the supporters club itself had 52 coaches and a train. Derby County were Champions of England - seems strange now.

I was on that train in 1976.

Great day out. Stood down the side with the Southend supporters. Under their seated stand.

Non-stop from Southend to Derby by train!

On the wayto Derby 78(fa cup game), two coaches, one from Southend & one from Swindon, turned up,at the same time and a massive fight broke out, started by a bloke with long hair & a beard

Looked it up.

Swindon were playing away at Nottingham Forest that day, so makes sense the coaches would meet at the same place.

Remember that happening to us on the way to AP Leamington, once, in the FA Cup.

I remember both AP Leamington games. First was dodgy, second not as dodgy as we were briefed!
Both interesting games. As was Ilford in 74. Most of the crowd were Shrimpers!

Was also at all 3 games..the first A P L game was dodgy..i had then an earing (Hidden by long hair,or so i thought) hanging on it was a small Southend badge. They sussed us out,coz of it...we got chased all the way to the train station.was with acouple of lads from Chesnut Av..Colin,a real top, hard lad..we were worried.

We had all the windows down one side of the coach bricked .

It was certainly very dangerous ozzie. Most football lads coaches had their team colours, scarfs banners or flags up for show at the coach windows. You couldn't avoid other teams coaches on the way to their away games at Service Stations. Sometimes their would be banter and singing. Sometimes they would ignore each other, but sometimes all hell would break loose.
