We must be doing very little in the January transfer month ,most talk now on the Fact Rigsby paid 930 for his season ticket, good on him ,money goes towards helping SUFC stay solvent good on all STH no matter what you paid for your ticket. All i want to know is will we sign anyone before its too late, putting a bid in and signing someone is completely different ,we could put a bid in for Messi or Ronaldo dosent mean we will sign them .

Maybe it could be Ryan yates for Nottingham forest, just come back from his loan spell at Notts county where he was very good. Wouldn't mind him

What's the betting that the bid relates to some 30 year old player who has a poor injury record.
Why Phil Brown didn't take up the option to sign Ben Whiteman from Sheffield United as a direct replacement is beyond me. 21 years old and a scorer of goals from midfield for both Doncaster this season and Mansfield the previous season. Yet again, an example of how our transfer policy is all wrong.

What option was that?

makes you think why don't our scouts pick up players like him eh, Peterborough always do this and so do Dagenham, maybe it's because we always take so long in making offers to anyone:omg:
Our scouting network isn't big, just Bob Shaw (who I'm not convinced by) a young lad who helps Bob Shaw by watching local matches and Coughlan and Maher do their bit as well. I get the impression PB prefers to scout bigger clubs academies and U23 sides from what we have brought in and what PB says in the media.

Maher and Coughlan are at places like Chelmsford a fair bit so I'm sure he has been watched. PB has been there too so I'm guessing players have been recommended and he's gone to look himself. The trouble is a lot of players in non league have a patch of form where they look a decent player. When you get to the point where its a prolonged run of form and there is more of a case to buy with less risk you go up against the likes of Peterborough and quite frankly we can't compete.
Dagenham's advantage is John Still, he lives and breathes non league football, managers in the bostik north get phone calls from him regularly with him monitoring players. He's always done wonders with Dagenham's budget and up and coming players want to play for him. A lad I know who played for the club I followed in Australia, Craig Robson, was signed by John from Bognor and Craig says he's brilliant at nursing players up to the next level. Craig is now captain at Daggers.

I did actually suggest Craig to the club a few years back and Bob Shaw with all his contacts in the game got back to me and said that he had contacted people at Bognor and he didn't play there anymore. I responded by sending him a match report from the night before detailing Craig's impressive input, I didn't hear from Bob again.

I see Peterborough signed their second non league player in a week, Joe Ward from Woking, and so it goes on

Just over a third of the way through the transfer period, getting exciting as tension mounts, 30 players brought in so far, only 9 clubs left yet to strengthen, cmon Ron, make my day/s

According to the Echo, we are chasing 2 Midfielders and 2 Strikers, all championship, with an offer on the table for one of the Midfielders ...

Any guesses as to who?

Matty Palmer at Burton springs to mind, only played 11 league games this season and out of contract in the summer. Played vs us and Brown plenty of times before.

Thanks RO for the clarity. In truth if this is our scouting set up and structure, no wonder we are so poor at snapping up talent. Clearly the set up is something from the dark ages and is close to laughable in the current age, especially compared to our competitors, some of whom have specialised , young , dynamic teams of specialists and analysts , full time in the role as back room staff , that's on top of what the likes of what the Manager and the equivalent of Maher, coughlan et el manage to do. Overdue a major overhaul for the future surely, as we consistently miss out on local talent. No doubt our Bob has been a stalwart but time for a shake up?

Not the first time you have slagged them Barry but what is that you don't like about our backroom staff?

My mate is a football agent making his way up the ladder. Primarily young talent from non-league and abroad (mainly Netherlands). He has frequently offered services to Phil Brown but that HE will not entertain it. He says of all the clubs in the south of England we are the hardest to work with and seem unwilling to try new things. He did mention Maher was sympathetic.

Have I missed something or are Dagenham not two divisions below us? Not sure we've "missed out" here.

That was the state of play a couple of years ago, I couldn't say if there have been any improvements?

PB has actually been to Holland to scout after someone pestered him about a certain player. Quite a trip for our little team with flights and over night hotels.

Not sure of the exact figures but its something like, when they scout a player they like to see a score of 220. They will look again if its 200

The lad they looked at scored.....96.......As far as I know there have been no more trips to Holland.
