Pre-Match Thread Southend Utd vs Accrington Stanley

What's your choice for Saturday's starting 11?

4-4-2 at home please.

Have been on a bit of a Mantom watch recently and not that impressed to be honest - gets pushed off the ball far too easily for an experienced central midfielder.

Square pegs in square holes, I'd go for:

Oxley

Bwomono White Moore Hendrie

McLaughlin Dieng Hyam Bunn

Cox Robinson

Subs: Bishop, Turner (if fit), Mantom, Yearwood, McCoulsky, Kightley, Hutchinson

I would go for this, except as agree cant play Dieng, Hyam and Mantom in same side.
Sam has ben lacking a bit lately.
However Robinson alongside Simon. No Thanks.
I would put Kightley there instead, we have seen he can score goals and is/was a quality player. Ok mainly a winger, and yes Simon is not a target man but without options.
Lets give a ex Premier and a ex Championship player a chance against well Accrington Stanley!!
Oh same subs but Robinson on bench!!

I actually like the idea of Kightly with Cox, I must admit. Kightly has scored a fair number of goals in his career and would link well with Coxy.

I think he might give Robinson another go first, though, but if it doesn't work after 60 mins then that would be a good swap for me.

Either way, we have to be positive.

I am heartened to read several posts suggesting playing a regular 4 4 2 and using players in their regular roles. I am also in agreement that playing 3 central midfielders can cause confusion as their options to "stick/go/wide or not, can be tricky, unless (and it hasn't happened yet!) that it is a known. tried and tested, works well system.
We have 3 good wingers, with MacL having played himself back into form, maybe Bunny and Kites aren't quite 100% but they know their roles.
Who plays with Cox???? He must have an idea who works (not who he is best buddy with) alongside him best; CP might do worse than ask him?

I would put Harry up front with Coxy TBH.

I would even go 3 up front on crazy attack mode and hit 3-0 at half time. (Brentford often go 3 or 4 up front ... works for them).

Apart from that I don't care who plays ... As long as we win.

In fact I would go a 9 - 2 formation. 9 strikers and 2 in goal (can you tell I've had a pants day and lost the will to live after Pompey)

Would that be the Brentford who are currently 18th in their league

Things have changed at Brentford since Smithy left and I'm not sure for the better.

Last Saturday, they were 3-0 down after 20 minutes.

Blimey ..... I might be thinking of someone else then. Sure I read something about a team using 3 or 4 up front recently.
I'll try and find it. Thought it was them :-(

It may have been them under Dean Smith. He is keen to play attacking football, as Villa's recent matches will testify.

Can't find it but I remember SCP considering 3 or 4 up front earlier in the season on a pre-match interview he also mentioned this team often does it as well.

Normally at the end of the match reports. So it's Results/Match Report, scroll down to the end and there is the attendance figure.

It used to be on the results/fixtures page. Seems to have been taken off.
So not easy to compare!! Suppose that's progress.

the quickest way in is to follow the Fixtures & Results link on the right hand side of this page.

Saturday is another SUEPA Event day when we welcome back our leading scorer for the 07/08 season, the 08/09 season and the 09/10 season ........ Lee Barnard.

He will be introduced to the crowd shortly before kick-off (and learning lessons from before we'll encourage our guest to make his way to the centre of the pitch to wave hello to all and not just hide behind the Blue Belles).

We hope he'll get a great welcome.

Wonder what the attendance will be, with Christmas coming up ?

Would'nt be surprised if it was our lowest of the season so far.
What with Christmas knocking on the door, our current form, & with all respect to 'Accy', hardly a mouth watering prospect.
Added to the fact Saturday is supposed to be a cold day, with heavy rain forecast as well.

I think the players now need to play there hearts out time for them to stop letting there manager take all the flack
