Who should replace bond?

Who should replace Kevin Bond

Even if cost is an issue, I think almost anyone would be better than Bond from what I've heard. If the financial situation really is that dire then put Bond on gardening leave and let Duncan take over 1st team duties.

Whoever it is, after Powell & Bond we need some stability. A proven name at this level who can keep us out of the bottom 3 (2?) this season. Any talk of Barrett/Maher/Tilson is too much of a risk.

Exactly my opinion too.

Barrett for me. He’s everything that Bond isn’t. Forget club legend status, this guy has passion and desire and this will feed through to the players. If the team represent the manager on the pitch then this will do for me. I’m sure we could find an experienced man to work alongside him
Why the obsession with Barrett from so many? He has NEVER managed and is in his early stages as a coach. 'Passion' and 'desire' are not enough to win football matches, we need someone who can totally re-configure our defence. We are leaking goals, the defending is schoolboy and we need a properly EXPERIENCED League 1 level manager. Besides, who knows if he'd leave a good job at Millwall for our current mess? As for Tilly, club legend for sure, but hasn't managed at a serious level in probably 5 years, his record since leaving us is poor, lets not hark back.
I'm no fan of Parkinson due to his antics when managing the sheep farmers up the road but at least he's the type of League 1 manager who'll get in there and get us organised. Others including Adkins, Rowett, Nathan Jones, all have decent track records at our level, but this is the wrong time for a rookie.

What have you heard?

Tilson is a proven name at this level.

Harris,never managed-Gerrard never managed
Barret could more that cope,in almost every club he played for he was made captain, also P.F.A representative he can motivate, and has passed all coaching badges including his Pro licence which make him as qualified as any manager.in any divison.
Barret will do for me

He’s also been out of the game for what, 8 years? I love Tilly as much as the next blue but going back down that route isn’t the right choice.
Totally agree but if finances are a big issue like some are speculating I'd rather have what I'd imagine would be a very cheap Tilly than persevere with Bond.

At last some sense is talked! Barrett is learning the ropes at the moment, I've no doubt about his passion and love for the club but we need someone with experience and knowledge, not just passion.

Ron always goes for the cheaper option of an out of work manager (rules out Nathan Jones at the moment) and these will either fall within or outside our budget.

Outside of our budget will be Chris Hughton, Gary Rowett, Garry Monk, Chris Coleman probably Nigel Adkins, Ian Holloway and Phil Parkinson as well (although the latter hasn't been paid for a while, so may take any port in a storm!).

Options within our budget are likely to be Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Harry Kewell, Lee Clark, Kevin Nolan - not sure any of them will be universally popular appointments, but could they possibly be any worse than Kevin Bond?

PS Anybody know when Ron gets back from holiday? I'm sure he's monitoring events while he's away but don't think a decision will be made until he returns and meets people face to face.

I wouldn't be against Nolan. He did well at Notts County and was then rather harshly sacked, especially when you look at what's happened to them since. He'll be passionate and keen to prove himself. He is another ex-Hammer though... Big no to the other three.

Probably does all depend on how much it will cost to sack Bond & the others. If we can get rid cheaply, then my choice would be to go for Phil Parkinson. He knows the lower leagues, has current knowledge, has been reasonably succesful (obvioulsy a few failures but hey we aint gonna get Pep), and after his Bolton experience would probably take a chance with us. However if its going to cost a fortune to get rid, then we'll probably have to look at a (probably) cheaper option like Barrett. If nothing else you'd like to think he'll sort out the defence. Either way going by Ron's past, he's probably quietly lining up a replacement as we type..
