Who should replace bond?

Who should replace Kevin Bond

I would estimate the additional cost to the club of sacking Bond and his back room staff and replacing him with another Manager to be £400k plus. Simple question is can we afford to sack him?
Whilst I have lost faith in Bond I have been reading with interest what is happening at Bury and Bolton who have both spent well above what they have earned.
When fans ask for Managers to be replaced I believe they only look at the clubs short term interest I.e. in our case to stay in the first division.
I like most would like to see Bond replaced but only if we are in a stable enough financial position to do so.
I would much rather be seeing second division football with Bond in charge than seeing us follow Bury and watching us play in the Isthmian league against Canvey, Grays etc.

Hate to spoil the contributions but, have we all suddenly forgotten that we have no money at all?

And this is the worry - unless RM has an emergency funding pot - that might just keep KB here regardless of these continuing poor results. Some stressful days (and weeks? ) ahead....

People saying Rowett, Holloway Adkins etc, not only do we need to pay off Bond’s two year contract, we need to pay for a manager who is far more expensive?

True. But Ron isn’t a stupid bloke so who knows what that contract entails. He took on someone with very little experience who was absolutely desperate for a crack at a number one job.

Maybe we’ve got negotiated a modest severance package if it all goes wrong. If Bond was confident in his ability and that desperate, it shouldn’t have put him off.

I doubt it plus you need to take into account the pay off to the back room staff. The cost of replacing any Manager is significant. Do you not think Ron would have sacked Bond by now if the cost was not a factor?

Not necessarily. Ron has always been notoriously patient with his managers. He’s never been one to act in haste and pull the trigger quickly.

A dose of realism. Most of the names would command a salary far above what we could offer. Bond was a cheap option. Adkins Parkinson Rowett should all get championship jobs once the managerial merry go round kicks off soon in the championship.

All this maybe true, but the Chairman will want to protect the substantial investment he has already made and that protection includes Southend staying in Division 1 at a minimum. Besides, RM has never been in a hurry to settle accounts.

Isn't that a bit short sighted? They might be the best man for the job.
All this anti Colchester attitude is ridiculous. What on earth is the problem .White played for them and if Parkinson came here and sorted us out I would have thought that most would be thankful. It is a shame that Colchester is not in our division as its a great local derby . I just don’t want to be in their division

I'd like Sol Campbell, I think he still feels he has a lot to prove and in his short time I management he has taken a team that was written off and given them belief and ultimately masterminded a great escape from relegation

I don't think Ron has ever let finance get in the way of anything, has he?

If he is here next season and we are in L2, you'll be more or less on your own in the stands then. How many season tickets do you think we'd sell if we carried on losing and letting in 4 goals a game?

It really would not surprise me if there were early termination clauses in Bond's contract.

Ron knew he was taking a punt and Bond was desperate for the job.

Then again I know very little about employment law or running a football club.

Ultimately the stand out, and in my opinion only candidate for the job, would be Phil Parkinson. I've never been able to stand the man, but he's without a doubt the man for the job if he would indeed be interested.

Whoever it is, after Powell & Bond we need some stability. A proven name at this level who can keep us out of the bottom 3 (2?) this season. Any talk of Barrett/Maher/Tilson is too much of a risk.
