Worst moments as Shrimpers

24th August 1996 - Oxford 5, Southend 0. We were absolutely terrible that day. And the weather was awful - it absolutely lashed it down on our fans standing on the open terrace. It was 3-0 by half time and not that many came back for the second half.

Yeah, that was truly awful. We were appalling that day.

Yep, although not the worst score, it's probably the worst game I have ever seen. You knew after that game we were going to be relegated.

My one was when I thought our win v Chester (1-0, Spinner header) was enough to keep us in the old Div. 3 in '89, only to see fans in the East giving the thumbs down to signify our fate as I think Reading had come back from 2-0 down to beat Chesterfield 4-2 and stay up at our expense.

Mike North.
That was such a sad day. May he RIP. It was nice we could do a little something as I think we re-played the game after the season ended and his family were there. Can’t remember who the opposition had been? A poignant reminder that at the end of the day it’s just a game which we all enjoy.

Getting trounced at Roots Hall by the sheep botherers and having "whats that coming over the hill, its relegation... " sung to us... ffs

I would say it can't get any worse from last season. But 20/21 began with getting done four nil at home..

Game on..

It was Mansfield Town as I remember.

Missing out on the L1 playoffs by 15 minutes, it gave many fans and some within the club the expectation that we should be at that level leading to over-reaching and spending too much on players who weren't interested in playing here and only after one last payday.

There is a direct line from that point to the situation we now find ourselves in due the instability that has been present at the club ever since
