Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Stevenage

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion, but there’s a difference between a reasoned opinion and blindly shouting MM’s ****, Acquah’s ****, without suggesting reasonable alternatives. Shrimpet Steve does this constantly, making ludicrous suggestions such as playing Mellis on the wing in the most recent pre match thread, hence the ridicule.

I voted MM out on the most recent poll by the way and am very much on the fence right now, so I’m by no means a fanboy, but I can see the progress we‘ve made defensively. I do think Ron’s the main villain in terms of our awful reputation with agents/other teams, hence why we can’t attract half decent players.

I totally respect what you're saying but, from my short time on this site, bullying does seem to be an issue. I see the persons post but just say nothing if I don't agree. Sometimes it's better to just say nothing. One or two people I've learned to just say nothing too, as I'm sure people do the same with some of my comments.

I just can’t accept that we have the worst squad and team in the football league , we don’t on our wage Bill and we have bought in the following 14 MM players and if we go down the manager has to be responsible

Mellis
Ferguson
Macca
ANG
Akinola
RHF
Sterling
Cordner
Taylor
Olayinka
Halford
Holmes
Montgomery
Hart
Ranger

I simply can’t believe that we are going to get relegated in the fashion in which this is panning out , why do people think this is acceptable and that it’s been on the cards for years , I’ve never been so bored and disinterested in watching our games like I am now .

I’m sorry but if you bring in 15 players then this is your squad , you have been backed and you obviously identified these as being of league 2 standard , we need to stay up

I get what you’re saying and maybe the ridicule does cross the line with Shrimpet occasionally. It’s a fine line and to be fair he gives as good as he gets much of the time! I guess at the end of the day it’s up to the mods to decide what’s acceptable or not.

Sure. You have a point. It can go too far. But that poster has been relentless in criticising one of our young home grown players. Some people here have just been sticking up for 'one of our own', a kid who went to school in the town and made the first team ahead of schedule. If any poster is that uncompromising in their opinions about a player they are going to attract some come back, surely?

Just ignore the comments I guess. I've also been critical of that payer, I don't expect everyone to like them but at the same time, don't expect to be bullied.

I think the difference is that you make your point once, Shrimpet can’t help reposting negative stuff about Acquah numerous times in the same match thread which does grate for me anyway. I’ve only replied to him once on that issue by the way!

As a supporter you have the right to a point of view about OUR club without being called out & held up for ridicule on here.

We’re all annoyed & frustrated this year more than most due to circumstances, however I’ve noticed a few people getting a bit close to the mark with their replies & as you say, borderline bullying in certain cases. I really think some people need to stop & think before they post

Don’t forget there is a ‘report’ option you always can use though.

As a lifelong Southend fan I’d just ask everyone to remember that we are all on here because we LOVE this club of ours & are on the same side regardless of opinions.

Up the Blues!

Well said ! Ultimately, we're all on the same side, aren't we ? UTB

MM saying on the official site that we played 442 today? Really? I couldn't quite work out what formation we were playing but it didn't look like 442 to me. There were still far too many occasions when we didn't have enough players in the box.

i think the MM masterplan today was chasing around in a high press ,,,

when this did not work the team went back into their defensive shell - with the hopeful boot being the most effective option,

then we had the usual mess of substitutions ..

in his time as manager MM has not developed any effective pattterns of play, showed any effective leadership, brought any clarity to selection or squad building.

he disrupts the team with ego driven "tactical" changes - in selection and substitutions - he has failed to develop SUFC youth players or maximise incoming loans ..

the result of his management is clear to see to

What a load of rubbish. Ego driven? Laughable.

As for maximising loans - Olayinka, Taylor and Cordner all done well. Would take all three permanently quite happily. Green looked like he had something in his brief spell before injury scuppered that.

Now is not the time to be developing youth players. But at the start of the season up until December a lot featured. Clifford has been a joy to watch. Elvis is only, what, 21? Acquah has played regularly.

We played 4 4 2 for 10 minutes and it slowly deteriorated. A strange thing to watch.

Football is so overcomplicated at times.

This is Barrow's third managerof the season. They didn't get a so called "new manager bounce" when they appointed their second one, did they?
technically it's our 4th manager - or rather it's Kelly's 2nd spell in charge - his 1st was for 4 games in between David Dunn and Michael Jolley. He won 2 of the 4 games as caretaker then, and has won 3 of 5 this time round - so with Kelly in charge we have had the bounce both times.

I would argue Taylor doesn't look as good as he did when we first signed him and as for Cordner, no thanks, don't rate the guy at all.

I also agree about our youngsters; Clifford was excellent last season and has just carried that on, but it seems MM doesn't like playing him. He only came back into the side when Hart got injured (at a time when a number of us were calling out Hart's defensive liabilities) and then it looks like he couldn't wait to drop him again.

And what has happened to our other promising youngsters. One of our keepers decided to leave, due to being frozen out and other than Egbri, no-one else gets a look in.

What should now be obvious is that no matter what the formation or the chosen eleven, we are just not good enough to survive in this division. Yes, we started brightly today but as ever, could not sustain it. The substitutions didn't improve things but were very late on. Lots of silly bookings from players who should know better, Demetriou and McCormack are becoming an embarrassment in that respect.
If we divide the season into three groups of 12,11 and 12 games, it was only during the middle section that we picked up some good results, mainly through that sequence of four home wins, that yielded 15 points. Since then we have scored fewer goals than in the first sequence of 12 games and only 4 in the last nine, three of which were in one game and of the once in season variety. Despite numerous new signings the one obvious need for a goalscorer never happened. Time for a last chance change.

You might want start by setting a good example. Perhaps if you never said snidey personal remarks to certain individuals or groups of posters, like you already have on this thread. You wouldn't feel to need to grizzle when they reply to you.

Such a disappointment.
We started well, tempo and pressing, running off the ball, lots of good stuff BUT not quite doing the last finish.
Excellant freekick, superb save.
The first half was our best at The Hall for quite a while.
Too many stoppages broke play and momentum.
Half time ,
Some very silly bookings.
We got tired, we stopped closing down, we stopped gambling on runs, we got scared of losing the 1 point and forgot winning the 3.
We could use 5 (FIVE!) subs but this is where MM gets it wrong, the bench, wrong subs imo.
We should have been able to freshen legs across the midfield and forward midfielders (in seasons past we had forwards but not now).
Clifford on for Macca, move Hart forward. Mellis on for Demi. Taylor on for RHF,
Wouldn't it be good to have Oli and Eggers too?
And if that didn't spark, we (MM) could have tried Goodship and Holmes.

We drew BUT we lost.

This armchair manager is easy!

There are ways of saying that you don’t think someone is good enough. If a poster relentlessly insults a player then they should expect to get some back.
Anyone who puts up a reasoned opinion gets a much easier ride.
Anyone who reads who is injured before posting “ I don’t understand why they don’t start” gets a much easier ride.
Anyone who comments on the whole team who have played badly rather than focusing on one player gets a much easier ride

With all the crazy S happening out in the real world at the moment, it’s actually quite nice to be worried about a blunt strikeforce trying to score goals, innit?

Had a zoom faux pub session with my Grimsby supporting mate and said this has two 0-0s written all over it. Did I back it? Course not ?

The keeper that left waa 19. He was never going to play this season.

Again, Acquah
