Post-Match Thread and Ratings Dagenham & Redbridge 3-0 Southend United

i said it preseason and a few times since Pb and his pensioners, why oh why did any off us believe PB could turn us around ,after those 5 matches at the end off last season he should have been let go,Oh if RM AND MANY OF US HAD THE WISDOM OFF ORESIGHT .
When I looked at this squad before the season started, I instantly thought it was mid table team..... its worse than I thought it would be. Its mess which I can't see being addressed whilst Ron is still the owner. Gone way past blaming players and managers now.

if we get relagated again. It could take 10 years to get back into div 1. I will be lucky to be around that long

Went to the game with little expectation but more to show my support to the team as always and fir the new coaching set up, although I bought my tickets before PB had been sacked. I said on the way that if Daggers clicked it could be 3 or 4 and I was proved right. Be battled hard fir the first 30 mins and created a few half chances although our inability to hit the target was or is alarming. Last 15 and first 15 mins of both halves Daggers dominated and no surprise they scored. But to concede the goals we did and in a short space of time just goes to show how fragile this team is right now. Yes injuries are killing us a bit at the moment and missing Ralph and Arnold certainly hasn’t helped defensivel.

but Maher, Benno and Currie have had less than two days and thankfully Tuesday has been called off which gives the squad a chance to regroup ahead of another tough trip next week, yes one and all the mighty Borehamwood is going to be tough.

in goal, we need Arnold back and quick, poor Harry just isn’t up to it
defence, need to go back to a back 4, but we also need fit defenders
midfield, so slow and sideways, not cutting edge or thrust. Thought Phillips looked decent when he came on, needs a run in the side
forwards, Dalby again did well today but never looks a threat in the box. Murphy we know is good at this level but cuts a frustrated figure at the moment
Egbri, so poor, yes energy but no end product and Weston today tore him a new one. Much rather Dennis or Walsh started. Bridge, looks better in a three up top or wide of a 4. As a wing back he isn’t as effective

so yes Maher has his work cut out but there is time and games to play with. They have a clear week now and although I don’t expect much a do expect to see a more organised and committed team.
Rome wasn’t built in a day.

also met @StanleyVictorCollymore before the game. Lovely guy and radiated enthusiasm for the club and what he is trying to do. He must be kept in some capacity whether a year or 10. This club, this great club needs all the support it can get.

the fans today, nearly 1400, another great turn out but let down by a few morons abusing certain players as they came off the pitch. Yes we all paid our money and have a right to vent, but do it in the right way and not shouting vile abuse at the players, I’ve never known this tactic to have an positive impact. See you all at Boreham Wood

Bridge wasted/restricted at left wing-back, fired 5/6 shots way over the bar, no pace up top, we noticed their onrushing midfielder 10 seconds before our players did as he notched the crucial opener, keeper was poor for 2nd and 3rd goals.
A horrible afternoon compounded by messages I received from a Daggers mate afterwards;

“ Got to say that's the worst away performance I've watched here in ages. Lots for the management team to sort out”.

"Dagenhams keeper Elliott Justham is in the bar now:
"Didn't have much to do El"
"No it was nice, makes a change!"

“ I hate saying it, we were saying it's quite sad to see your demise. But we also think you'll stay up becaus there is some shi*e In the league.”

Mmm much the same, even first half, sloppy start to second half, concede and 8 mins later 3-0 and game over. What a job for the new management team.

Seaden 4
Howard 5
White 5
Hobson 5
Egbri 6 MOTM
Dunne 5
Ferguson 5
Ogogo 5
Bridge 6
Murphy 5
Dalby 5

Phillips 6
Sayers 5

Terrell Egbri edges MOTM for me, ran miles and gave 100%. Thought Phillips looked classy when he came on. But overall really disappointed no new manager bounce, my how we missed Nathan Ralph today and Arnold in goal who would have prevented the two headed goals. UTB

Dissapointing with the fan behind who decided to twice declare "Dagenham is just a town full of Bombers"

If you're on here. Shame on you

A good first half for the Blues sadly undone by 7 minutes during the second half.

We all knew it was not going to be a sudden impact where we would become world beaters overnight and I am sure it is as obvious to Maher and Co that changes in the playing staff have to be made and sharpish. Unfortunately you cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear and the same problems we have had all season and before that remain.

It is however only the Coaching teams first game in charge so we will have to be patient as they are having to deal with what we have atm. Barring a very few players we have the rest are just not good enough even for the NL league, We have a terrible squad.

Fantastic support again from the 1354 travelling army, the supporters are one constant with our club. Superb.

Over to you guys.
Very possibly the best thing that could have happened. Awful experience for us, laughed at by Daggers fans, but Kev and the boys will be under absolutely no illusions now.

It was a relegation performance from a set of players that just have no belief in themselves.

That was so obvious, so it was interesting to hear the "we've got/lost the ball"/"you're nothing special we lose every week" and the ironic cheers for our 20-year old kèeper when he kicked the ball.

We need to cut that out.

I appreciate we have all suffered over the last three years but we need to stop actively hindering our own team.

Just read through all this, I cant help but feel our defeat has bought out the anti stan/maher minority in full force. Makes me feel pretty sad tbh.

What do you guys want then if maher, currie, benno, and stan are not in your thinking? Tell me, im genuinely interested in a better plan, here and now.

I knew we would get beaten today. We are 4 or 5 decent signings off being a capable team in this league. That is the stark truth.

1. A pundit who got you a CEO which you didn't have for 5 years. The alternative if Tom wasn't there? I dread to think.

2. A pundit who has a recruitment head ready who's knows every player in the nation( six hundred Conference players watched, analysed and picked out to fit what we need, now, today) who can be extricated from their clubs to bring in quality. He walked into Grimsby in pre season, the oldest squad in the division and brought 8 recommended in. They are TOP of the league.

3. A pundit who's managed to persuade the owner to take a back seat in order to not inflame a tense situation. Likewise a supporter base ready to turn at any moment.

4. A pundit who can speak to anyone in this sport within 30 minutes and who's built relationships with clubs over years, many of whom have already committed to helping us as and when.

5. A coaching trio who we had to sell the club vision to, none of whom were in a hurry to leave their clubs without hearing from a football man that a structure would be in place.

6. A pundit who's had 300 emails from scouts, managers, recruitment specialists, players all wanting to get involved.

7. A pundit who's been to 50 clubs at home and abroad learning and understanding how clubs are run, their structures , things they've done well and not. Invited in by all. There is nobody in English football who's been into more clubs to learn about structure more than I. No one. Ask around the industry!!!

8. A pundit who has only ever offered 3 clubs help and delivered for each. Delivered. I have zero interest getting **** from random fans of clubs I have no connection to, it's hard enough getting **** from those you do!

9. A pundit who's given you more clarity and information as to what the stench is at Southend, relaying that to the owner so that there's a fighting chance of getting rid of the chancers, schemers and malintents at the club. Without identifying them it's not relegation you'd have to worry about, it's bankruptcy.

19. A pundit who's had "yes, we'll help" from every club he's contacted rather than the "Southend? Hahaha" that is the image your club has inflicted on itself with toxic chancers who've walked through the door.

If I were you I'd have a long hard look at yourself and find out where I've suggested I'm a messiah or where I've strolled in acting like one .

I've offered real time help to turn a situation around that is one of the most embarrassing and reckless declines I've seen in football for decades. A lesson in self destruction, poor planning, woeful hires, zero structure and a reckless disregard for honesty and integrity.

I didn't cause this, I walked out of Roots Hall leaving you with £3.5 million from A £150k outlay within 6 months . I don't come with the stench of failure that has been so readily accepted at the club. Nor will I, I've never been involved with any club that's been relegated at any level and I won't start now.

This morning, my Mom, in a care home fell and smashed her face in. I came to Dagenham instead of going to the Midlands to see her. She's in hospital and I'm driving back now, then back south to continue to work on solutions for you to moan and cry about. When my Sister died of cancer while I was at Southend, I was given unlimited time off. I took not one day off because I wanted to do my job properly. So I'd ease off on questioning my character or ability or professionalism.

Be careful what you wish for, dumping on people offering help isn't acceptable.

Because qualified people at the club have served you so well, haven't they?

Have some damn respect.

Stanley Victor Collymore.
Well said.

Thank you Stan, by far the majority of us are truly grateful please don't let the minority get to you.

Wishing your mum a speedy recovery Stan. Please make time to see her ahead of anything you have planned to help with our club's situation.

As with the vast majority of us Shrimpers I have been hugely impressed with, and appreciative of, your efforts to help our club.

I truly hope our club sees sense and recognises your time and effort with the position you wish to take on.

Look after yourself and your family. Peace and Love.

We are in desperate need of some decent centre backs! Balanta had John White in his pocket for the whole of the 2nd half.

Not quite sure what Seaden was doing for the second.
I’d argue he was questionable for the third too. For me neither goals two or three go in with Arnold between the posts. But I’m not having a go, Seaden is a young kid who isn’t ready and has been thrown into the worst team in the club’s history.

Stan can certainly talk the talk and I have no doubt he’ll walk the walk if the club sees sense and agrees a deal for him and a new HoR. Anyone who’s watched the Zoom calls surely can’t fail to be impressed by the way SVC talks about what needs to be done to turn this club around. A new coaching team simply isn’t enough. The irony is that today’s result is likely a blessing in disguise - it may just be a catalyst to getting Stan’s and the HoR deals done. Ron and Tom MUST know we can’t go on like this.

Even in pre season I was concerned about our defence. Too many of our defenders are in the twilight of their careers and lack pace. Our recent spate of injuries have just underlined our deficiencies in this area.
Sort this out and we can then turn to the midfield. I am sure with Maher and Bentley now on the coaching staff that they have a clear idea of how they want the midfield to operate.
It is very hard to improve a team or results when your defence is below par. Urgent improvement is required and I doubt if it will be forthcoming unless we can add to the playing staff. And urgently.

Well thats over with ,i do now expect within the next two weeks we will see some incomings and come January a lot of outgoings as well as incomings

I

I demand respect for what I've done for the club in the past, and what I'm trying to do now. That's it.

You and one or two others are dealing in clichés that you can't back up with facts, so I have a right of reply, just like Stan. What you have done for the club over the last week or so is fantastic and all of us fans are grateful for what we now have.

Stan, what you have done for the club over the past week or so is magnificent.

But there’s certain things you need to keep in your pants, be able to take a deep breath and then think about your next steps. When 99 per cent of the fans have got your back leave the flaming to us and don’t let it get to you.

Don’t give them the excuse they need for their futile responses and don’t give Ron the opportunity to cite the Maverick label.

We are on the cusp of a new dawn and we want SVC to play a massive part in that.

I switched off at 2-0 and went to sleep. Glad I didn’t wait another 30 seconds. I think it only right for the three musketeers to evaluate what we have for themselves. I’d like to think a couple of hastily arranged closed doors against local teams is on the cards.

I’ve always been of the opinion that if you’re good enough you’re old enough. It might be time to give that a whirl.

With an injury strewn defence I can understand why 3-5-2 was favoured yesterday. From what I’ve read of match reports this season even with a nearer full strength squad we just don’t have decent enough wing backs to do justice to the formation.

It’s hard when you’re relying on match reports but three things strike me as fairly obvious:

1 - With maybe one exception the loanees haven’t changed anything. Might be time to terminate some of the loans start with what we have within and go again.

2 - In defence we are injury ravaged, confidence completely shot to pieces and possibly simply not good enough. We must be able to loan a semi decent defender from somewhere. Someone either like a Barrett (I can’t believe I’ve just said that!) who’s enthusiasm and encouragement always rubbed off. Or someone like a Peter Clarke whose determination was unquestioned. Or for us older ones someone like a Paul Clark, Spinner (young or old) or even Alan Moody whose ability to do the right thing at the right time seems to be lacking with what we have at the moment. Cricko who were the centre halves in the 50s ?

3 - The goals for column says it all. We are not creative enough and we are not clinical enough up front. From listening to the first half commentary yesterday that seemed vastly improved apart from the onion bag. Let’s see what the likes of Rush or Walsh can bring.

Maybe Maher will take up Barton’s offer of assistance and get one of their fringe players on loan. Maybe SVC can use his network.

Ron’s job in all of this is to pay the players wages on time and leave the day to day running of the club to the CEO and coaches. We need to get rid of the label we seem to have been branded with and perhaps with the new regime we can get that message out there and attract the talent that befits the best club in Essex.

Disappointed by the management trio today, I was hoping they would mix it up a bit, it was the same formation and players as a PB team!
