I think often they make sure they are under contract so as to get, if not a fee, a healthy sell on. Dennis was given a new contract by Norwich but doubt they ever intended to keep him. So doubt Sheff let Brunt go OOC.

Brunt is interesting though. Came to us and started every game (completed all but 1 as well). Went to Notts County started just 4, subbed in on 9 occasions, and unused sub on 9 occasions. Is that a move that worked out? Would he, based on this, be a starter in L2?

Then look at Lopata. It looks like he absolutely hates not playing so suspect he would pick plying every week a league lower over being a squad player in the EFL somewhere. Sheff might disagree, but then he didn't appreciate being recalled only to miss the entire remaining grown up football season..

Bradford really going for it 9new players already brunt would probably be one for the future.But I agree don't think sheff Utd will let this happen without a fee,

Probably yes. Some players don't mind being the object of the punt if the moneys right or they have the absolute belief in their own ability (and presumably in this case that the Notts County manager was mistaken). Others at his age will want to go somewhere where they will likely play week in week out as they see that as essential to their development. And finally there is an agent.
