Breaking News Chris Wreh Signs

Super late to the party but he's the son of Chris wreh the ex arsenal player. Didn't realise that. Not bad pedigree.

"Chris is the son of former Arsenal, AS Monaco and Liberian international striker Christopher Wreh."

Have to agree with @Yorkshire Blue on this. There’s a reason why Josh Kelly is moving clubs for circa £100k and being chased by clubs at the top end of the division and Wreh is available on a free and more attainable. Anyone saying they’d rather have Wreh is surely wearing blue tinted specs.

Josh Kelly’s old man is one of us so in terms of how much the player wanted to sign for us and potential effort given in games you’d think they were at least on par. The key differences between the two players is Wreh was out of contract meaning negotiations were purely with the player, and track record. Kelly’s scored goals in this division before so is seen as a less of a risk. Couple that with still being under contract and you can see why it was more difficult to sign him.

I hope, like everyone else, that Wreh hits the ground running. But I think we should temper expectations a bit and see him as a useful option off the bench and I hope that Kev and co are still looking for a first choice striker that is less of a gamble.

It’s all gonna come down to whether Maher sees his first choice front three from Cardwell, Murphy, Dalby and Mooney. 4 decent players at this level but Murphy and Mooney are more likely IMO to regularly get goals even though Mooney’s seen as more of a wide player. So I think we might need one more in this area , at least whilst Cardwell and Murphy are out.

But getting a proven National League striker on loan for a few months is probably a non-starter so it’s probably a case of stick or twist.

I think he was talking to Leyton Orient. IMO he chose us as he should get more game time.
Chris should start as number one Striker given our injury problems in that department. Good luck to him, let’s hope he gets the start Freddie had And keeps it going. COYB, UTB
Orient signed Kelman on loan so maybe orient decided not to pursue wreh

With Murphy and Cardwell injured, we needed to add some depth up there. I think it was worth taking a punt on this guy to fill the void after he'd notched a few in the friendlies. I hope he does well enough to give Kev a selection headache once the other strikers are fit.

The only difference really is that Kelly had a good season last season. Before that no queue and no-one would have offered 40k. Thats the thing with forwards one great season at a decent level and their value rockets. Wreh is one season away from also being worth 100k plus. The art is to buy them immediately before that season not immediately after. If we had bought Kelly end of last season all the same tempering expectations comment would apply I think.

he proved his qualitys in the pre season games he has played in scored goals and set up moonie for his goal .
I think what we don't see also is he has been training with us 2-3 weeks so the management team will have been able to have a good look during the finishing exercises etc and other drills/ training matches to evaluate what he is capable of. And although a trials we had him watches last season as well. So not quite the gamble some may think probably.

Plus I think someone said he quit his day job at some point in the last year or so to focus on his football, so he’s clearly got the drive for it and you’d hope with the better mentality and time dedicated to his craft his ability will grow markedly over the season.

I see a bit of Wayne Gray in Wreh, a proper battler who will put in the hard graft and be an excellent foil for those around him (Mooney etc) whilst scoring 1 in 4 himself.
