Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation James Morton Signs

Transfer news
Yeah I'd ignore the highlights reel - they're not gonna show all the balls that go out for a throw etc.

Adds some interesting competition in midfield. Last season seemed to favour 2 defensive with Taylor and Miley with Husin as the attacking midfielder. I see him taking the Taylor role maybe. With Husin, Wes and Coker fighting it out for the attacking role?

I personally think Husin needs to pick his form up now, haven't been impressed with him recently!

Welcome, welcome, welcome.

I suspect he (James Morton) will have less time on the ball (and therefore to pick those passes) in a higher division so it might take a little while to get up to speed but the omens are good.

And now that there are possible choices, there comes the difficult matter for Kevin Maher - how to get the right balance in midfield - but that is what Kevin gets paid for.

Last couple of games he's been relatively poor, but he had a few good games beforehand. Inconsistencies is normal at this level.

We also now have 6 or 7 midfielders (Inc Wood) - which maybe 1 too many - someone leaving in the summer?
Wood has been a real slow burner. Apparently he's a fantastic finisher in training. So he's got that in his locker. His problem has been finding space away from defenders, to get enough shots in.

Maher likely knew of him from his Bristolian connections and so far he's been proven to be a good judge of both a players temperament and ability.

In King Kevin we trust, he Still, Currie and Bentley are the best management team I've seen in all my years, Obviously I liked Dave Smith, Webby, Fry, Tilly, Chris Powell and even Brown, to a degree but this combination has my complete confidence and I am very pleased the new regime has them signed up!

Could not agree more 😉

I've been thinking this. Central midfield doesn't strike me as a priority for a permanent signing as we have bodies in there, but I'm not going to doubt our management these days.

Id be looking to move on Lomas(just bad luck with injuries) and as much as I do like Powel for his industry and effort, I don't see him as being up to this level.

Shoot me down, by all means on Callum, he seems a good Lad, so what am I possibly missing here?

I think we have missed Powell (and Cards) for his/their press , in last couple of games it's not been so intense. FWIW I don't think Sandat presses high enough up the pitch or with the same pace

Ironically, the sort of player the current regime would be targeting...
Was truly awful, in pretty much every game,!

Try these beauties!

David Mooney
Matt Harold (though couldn't fault his effort!)
Danny Webb
Ben Abbey
Don Cowan
Matt Patterson
Peter Beadle
Drewe Broughton (how did he become a Pro player??!)
Andy Rammel( I had high hopes for him!)
Graeme Jones " " " " "
James Lawson
Francis Cagigao
Neville Roach

I think we’ve missed Callum, personally. He’s a good option, he runs and keeps running and puts in a shift. Also another option for the opposition to think about.

he looked like he played very deep, often slotting into Ralph's left centre back position. so seems a deep lying midfield play maker. i wonder if that means he'll be the deepest midfielder with Hussin and Wes ahead of him, then Coker etc. being rotated in. Be nice to have options again, just hope Coker gets enough minutes to build on his obvious promise
Based on form, one could argue Husin is playing with the least amount of form compared to Wes and Coker. If Morton does start in the deep role, that's two positions to fill from three players. Be interesting to see what Maher does. My gut feeling is he'll drop Coker, which would be really harsh on him. I just can't see Husin being dropped.

Would imagine he will rotate all midfielders with no one being dropped as such. All 5 offer slightly different options and allow us to vary up the middle of the park nicely against different sides.

I thought Morton looked very good on his debut. Watching on the live stream he seemed to drop off well, collect the ball from the defence and look to pick positive passes ahead of him. He played deep lying playmaker role really well. Could be used as part of ‘double pivot’ with Cav and free up Noor, Coker and Wes to attack higher up the pitch. Or perhaps play to the left of a middle three and look to use that passing range around the opposition penalty area.
