As already mentioned, Blackstone Edge above Littleborough will be splendid this week given the weather we're having. You can even walk to the country's highest beach from it - I kid you not - https://www.discoveringbritain.org/activities/yorkshire-and-the-humber/viewpoints/todmorden.htmlSuperb overview thanks. I was going to hit the Peak District on the way up. Any recommendations N of Rochdale as an alternative? (1-2 hour hike). Plan to be in hotel by 5 and pub five mins later. You may have lost pubs but you won’t have lost a decent drink! None of this soft southern lager sheite or, worse, Stella.
I’m sure the ****hole slur was partly tongue in cheek. I can’t make it think of worse towns surrounding Manchester (and then we have our very own high street!).
This is the White House pub. That view is of Hollingworth Lake (see below) and Rochdale in the distance - https://thewhitehousepub.co.uk/
Hollingworth Lake is about 10 minutes from Jn 21 of the M62. Park up and have a walk round it; it's about 40 minutes point-to-point and there is a pub at each end, as well as some bars in between, not to mention cafes and a fish & chip shop/restaurant. If you saw the BBC programme The Jetty, about a year ago, starring Jenna Coleman, it was filmed almost entirely at the lake - https://www.visitrochdale.com/things-to-do/hollingworth-lake-country-park-p85031
Blackstone Edge and the Lake are usually about a 15 minute drive from Spotland, but we currently have roadworks on the A58 which will slow you down.
