Centre Half
Bad result. Great day.
Put it this way, if KAF had gone down immediately after the contact then the ref may well have given a spot kick. There was definite contact. The fact he tried to stay on his feet went against him, as it always tends to do.Dunno, but my friends were watching on DAZN, and it seems the very biased Oldham commentators were saying no, he dived, but the footage clearly showed contact! they said it looked more a penalty than theirs, I cant comment, because the other end of the pitch was a long way away!
No better, no worse. Had a shocker on his debut, but put in 2 or 3 good performances after that before his loan expired. Is Harness better than Hayes and Collin?
He likes playing hopper so he can help out the defence.I wonder if, once the dust has settled - if Kev will regret a couple of decisions.
Firstly, the big decision was to start Miley over Coker. He went with Miley's experience and defensive qualities but given he's not started since January, I think it put a lot of pressure on him. He's been really effective as a closer and I would have loved to have him in the latter stages/extra time. His early yellow also nullified what he was able to offer, and he was blowing after 60 mins.
Secondly - Hopper over Bonne. Again, I think we missed Hopper in the second half of the match, when we need to defend at times and someone to take the pressure off the back line. Automatically he dropped back in the first 20 mins and left Kendall a bit isolated, which put us under pressure in the first half. Bonne has more pace and would have worried their defenders a bit more. We brought him on when we weren't exactly chasing the game, but just needed fresh legs up front as Hopper was exhausted.
TBF, I think our bench made a positive impact, which I expected it would have. Just a shame we didn't have the quality and experience of Cav and Hopper to bring off the bench to help us close the game out, in extra time especially.
Oldham used 6 subs, including subbing a sub who'd only been on the pitch around 40mins.What a day bar the ending, I did think we were going to do it, as we seemed to deal with everything that was thrown at us this season.
A game too far me thinks, for me only Harry Taylor brought his A game to the party, we just looked knackered.
Couple of points, I think Cav should have been replaced a lot sooner as he was so scared to tackle, and the glaring pull up mid way through the second half, made Kev take him off.
And why wasn't GW brought on, as tired legs were showing all over the place, lost count how many subs Oldham used.
So near and yet so far, please let us get out of this league next time....UTB
That was most peculiar.Bit of an aside but i was surprised there werent any ball boys.
i reckon that stole about 10 minutes of the match and hampered momentum for both teams.
That was MM taking off an attacking midfielder / winger - brought on to try and help win the game (and it was his pass that Norwood scored from - though there was a lot to do once he got it) and he was swapped for the defensive ankle biter / high press of Rossiter.Oldham used 6 subs, including subbing a sub who'd only been on the pitch around 40mins.
We used 5
Agreed We 100% need to learn from thisOldham were allowed to purchase up to 30 tickets per person in the general sale, which was a big fail on our part limiting to 4 (briefly 10) if I'm honest. It meant groups of friends/family couldn't sit together. IF we ever get to a cup final again, I'd like to be able to sit with more than 3 other friends/family. Not sure why Oldham also had the ability to pick a seat and we didn't.
All things the club can learn from.
You can have my programme, and I'll write something witty to cheer you up. Ask mods to let me know where to send it.Can't believe that when I was clapping our players off of the pitch someone pinched my match programme from under my seat. Talk about 2 upsets in one day. I hope our fan whoever pinched it goes to sleep tonight and never wakes up. My mate got 2 for his sons so he gave me one of his. Your a top bloke Lee. Who steels from there own? COYBs
