Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Thread - Summer 2025 Edition.

Transfer news
Relying on data can't be the only factor as to why we didn't get this done. We signed Kendall when the data was telling us not to. TL openly said that.

Surely it's more to do with not knowing which league we would be in. Although, if he's going to league 2, that surely means he is good enough for league 2, so we should have signed him regardless. Definitely more to it.

Looks like Cashman is going to Crawley. Can't blame the lad for wanting to play in the EFL but the fact we cannot compete with Crawley is a stark reminder of how far we have fallen over the past 5 years.
He obviously isn't bothered about attendances then, their crowds are often lower than ours and their ground only holds just over 6000 fans. Another reason is probably the fact that Crawley are his home town club!

I really fail to see the upside of people posting what players we are looking at, speaking to and OR close to signing It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

The Manager has publicly mentioned this, and is clearly not happy about his and COSU's business being plastered all over social media so what do it?.

I am not saying we lost this particular player due to a few blabber mouths on FB etc, but if there is a chance of other clubs being alerted, and the transfer being held up/more costly/lost then why bother?.

You wouldn't be putting stuff out in the public domain about your company putting together a deal of some sorts, without it being signed so let's not do it with our own football club.

It gets you Twitter likes, which is important if you like to be popular.

I'd rather have no idea who we are signing until it's announced.

Unfortunately us fans make it such an integral part of what we believe is important, the attendance. It doesn't matter one bit. The only time it matters is if two clubs were offering you exactly the same deal but one club had more fans than the other. It's ridiculous to believe that anyone would rather play in a worse league for less money just because they have more fans. It's a ludicrous expectation.

The fact is, he is only 24 and is going to the EFL. That club will be a stepping stone and if it all goes well, he will end up at a bigger club with a bigger attendance anyway.

This is a disappointing outcome but he's going to a team higher up the food chain, we can't knock that. If he went to a fellow NL club, that would be different.

Let's look at the positives. We are engaging with players that are league 2 quality, and those players are willing to come to us now. He is just one of many out there. We are shopping in a good market now. Not just foraging for scraps.

As an EFL player he not only has the kudos of being a league player but gets pension, union rep, player insurance amongst other things, all of which are hugely important for a player who could retire from playing at 35, have to stop through injury, or is unfortunate enough to be at a club that can't pay its players. All things some of ours haven't had.
Doesn’t he already have some level of support anyway from playing in EFL previously?

Just had a quick look at those Crawley crowds by season, they are much worse than ours!

You’ve found a club with less fans than you, that’s made your day hasn’t it CaP 😝.. by the way do keep us updated on Goodliffe

Exactly that, there is no doubt Southend get great support and the players must love playing in front of you all when things are going well but if not and 6000 plus fans are giving you a hard time it must be hell! Players are going to sign for league clubs if they can unless silly money is offered in the FGR/Wrexham mould, even then players won't be interested unless they feel promotion is only a season or two away. Location plays a big part too as well as the manager at the club, if they like them and that guy has the charisma to convince a player to sign for them it makes a big difference.

Our gates were well up last season, just under 5K average, leaving us 15th in the table but way behind some clubs such as Bradford who averaged nearly 18K! Your average crowd left you 2nd in the National league behind Oldham and would leave you in 8th place in league two, although of course there would be more away fans bumping up your crowds quite a lot.

Crawley weren't even an option when we could have got the deal done... The data speaks for itself on Cashman. Madness at this level. Trust your manager

I don’t get it if this is regard to shivass surely the other consortium members will say let Maher get who he wants for example and if we can afford it go for it .. understand we miss out on targets but using to much data for non league seems a step to far IMHO

I think it may be forever once you’re in, you’re in. Which is good to be fair.

That’s definitely the case with the PFA, not sure about the other bits and pieces @in the know has mentioned.

Hence why a lot of our squad couldn’t go to the PFA when we went through the non-payment of wages.
