I think if this data analysis continues for too long. We could dip out on our other prime targets.
Don’t the club trust Kev to make the call on a player ?
We are as far from the 'ron' method of recruitment as is possible to be. Whilst I wouldn't want Ron back for obvious mismanagement reasons, if a player was put to him convincingly, he'd get them and pay for them quickly whether he could afford it or not at that time.
Now we have data stat models to satisfy, then player budgeted cost analysis spreadsheets (tom) that it has to fit within, then ratification of the key members of the consortium including justin \shivaas and agreement of the others in their time zones. Its then on the agenda for the next video meeting for discussion between the amigos, JD, John, justin, Tom etc before a decision is made to sign off finalization of an offer.
'oh he's gone elsewhere! '
Must frustrate the hell out of kev and co.

That’s ridiculous. Needs speeding up or we’ll be left with players who nobody else wants.

There is no need for data on Cashman. A quick look at freely available stats and video and perhaps a few scouting visits is enough to see the bloke is more than capable at this level and possibly above. If we have lost out on him due to the data saying no or not being immediately available, then that’s very poor indeed and very costly. Lessons need to be learned very quickly or we will be stuck in oblivion forever.
💯 this! If you have targets get the data. Cashman was obviously very high up the list so why wait on the data? Weird

Agreed. Our fans obsession with crowds is borderline weird. Crawley at the moment are more attractive than us. So are Fleetwood, Salford, Stevenage and Colchester. They are all league clubs and we are not. Until we get back to the EFL that won't change, and we will continue to miss out on players to those sorts of clubs.
Catch 22…

We need quality signings to get back in the FL, but need to be a FL to attract quality players.

Money talks though, but despite all COSU can’t seem to compete with the likes of York and FGR owners.

It may be a blessing in disguise that Cashman won't be joining us. He could have put pen to paper and signed as a Southend player and the next day heard that Crawley wanted him. A higher league status and near home. We could have had a possible unhappy player on our books wishing he had delayed signing.
Time to move on now.

He might have cheered up when we were top of the league with 9,000 crowds while Crawley were propping up League Two in front of 2,000 and 3,000 crowds.

There's absolutely no way that the Crawley interest only began at the '11th hour' last night. They would have shown interest a while ago and they may have even offered a deal that was less than last night. Danny may have wanted to wait. The agent probably called Crawley last night to tell them that Cashman was coming here for X amount and that may have enticed them to up their bid/make a bid.

It would be folly to think they only entered that race last night and a singular tweet from a fan was just cause for them to be alerted to him and to make an offer. They have a productive scouting network just like us. It's hardly a secret that he had 27 goal contributions. Lots of teams would have spoken to his agent over the last few months.

Plugging things into data models is not especially time consuming and cost analysis shouldn't be either. So you would think it's the last part of the list you mentioned that takes the time. You would think a lot of it could be handled asynchronously to speed things up.

Players don't care about attendances. Players want good salary, a club where there's decent project which enhances there game to potentially move up the ladder. We currently seem to be dithering around which isn't great sign at this stage but it's still early. We need to act quickly so we are prepared once the season starts! We really don't want to be messing around come late August where we are left with players who no clubs wants as potential options.

Er, no it didn’t! We were 1,000 up on them on average. Something has gone awry with the calculation of Oldham’s average on FootballWebPages’ NL attendances page. I’m guessing that’s where you looked?

Oldham’s average was around 6,000 going into the last game - on FWP and everywhere else. We were 1,000 + ahead. One attendance of 10,000 in their final match does not add 2,000 to your average over 23 matches!

If you click to see their game by game attendances there were loads with 4k and 5k attendances. We certainly had a higher average than them last season.
That page included Wembley attendance as a home crowd for Oldham :Hilarious:

Sorry off topic I know

Christ 🤦🏻‍♂️

New school meets old school. There’s bound to be problems.

People Discussing about the data approach clearly don't remember the signings of Liam ridge well and Luke hyam. Short short memories
Nothing wrong with using data as long as the right people are looking at it, it is accurate, tells a story and is immediately available. From what’s been said on here today, that may not entirely be the case.

But, we move on. Next…

Well with Ridgewell, just asking him to run to the half way line and back would've done the trick. It's a combination of data/scouting and other things. The issue is the speed of turnaround.
