Poor again im afraid

I dont want to be the voice of doom and gloom but that was another poor performance from Southend and 5-2 was a very generous scoreline. Harrold, Macca, Bailey, Hammell were all poor today and their form needs to improve dramatically because you may get away with it against poor L2 opp but you won't against L1 opposition. Lets hope we get a new striker in the next week....

give it a rest mate.

a win is a win something we need to do badly. winning games breeds a winning mentality

Really no pleasing some people. That was the most entertaining game of the season at The Hall all season.

Remember, we were playing against a team with absolutely nothing to lose who, unlike Oxford in the previous round, had a right go at us. And we showed some character coming back from 2-1 down. That character has been lacking recently.

Personally, I think we look more likely to score with Harrold up front. He can hold the ball up and he does bring the midfield into play. Francis was superb in the second half and Lewis Hunt looked a completely different player. McCormack's ambition and commitment could not be faulted today.

You know, that may just have been what we have needed. Not playing brilliantly, getting the rub of the green and scoring some goals. Maybe the corner is turned.

Oh for f**ks sake....

I got on the bus after the game and there must have been fifteen other Southend fans on there but you'd have thought we'd been hammered by the sounds of them. All they wanted to talk about was Matt Harrold.

this is why we need the rep system back. red methinks

Some people are never happy. A 5-2 win against any team no matter what League they are in is a very good result. Plus we are now in the 4th round and whok nows who we might draw in the next round.

We were shcoking first half, but fair play 2nd half was good. Cant fault the spirit of the players today.
Bailey was class, dnt know what game you were watching. Proof that Mahers days are numbered.
Harrold did ok, but offers no goal threat whatsoever. Hopefully Fallon will join.
Quite a few positives tho- Hunt and Macdonald were excellent and attacking wise we look much better with proper wide players and not 3 centre mids.

yeah i'm just happy that we scored five and made more chances on top of that!
really enjoyed myself today and thought it was very entertaining.. great fans and i think that they wern't that bad of a team and battled hard imo..
finished them off well

thought harrold played quite well today, he links the play up quite well, hopefully fallon can come in and play that role and score goals

Maher stormed out today after being told he wouldn't be playing today apparently, disgraceful behaviour from the club captain if true.

As for Harrold, whereas the level of abuse he recieves isn't deserved, its definitely justified. I gave the lad time today as, lets face it, in recent weeks our other forwards have drawn blanks... But christ is that boy useless. Looks a player completely shot of confidence and ability.

I find it hard to believe that kev stormed out.

I think hes big enough and ugly enough to deal with, not even really being dropped but being rested.

how did you hear this?

Done the rounds in the Trust Bar prior to the match, friend of mine went for a smoke and saw him storm out of the ground...

Personally, and this is my own opinion, I don't think Johnny Herd ever meant to be on the bench, was the 17th man, and replaced Maher following his outburst.

although part of me would like to think he was dropped.

dont get me wrong, kev was our best player last season (and im not a maher fan) but this season there seems something missing from him

It's hard to be overwhelmed by today's showing but a win and a few goals cannot be sniffed at.

I don't really think Collis has done much wrong but I think our defence is geberally better organised with Flahavan behind them them. That said they still switched off for the opening goal, it seems waiting for the offside flag that didn't arrive.

Was impressed with Hunt and Francis today, fantastic composed finish from Francis too.

As for Harrold, I though he did ok. We know he won't be a threat in front of goal but he works hard and does bring others in well. We're also better defensively with him in the side in my opinion.

Centre of midfield did ok today. I think it's well documented that I've never rated Kevin Maher and the longer our passionless skipper stays out the side the better I say. We certainly didn't miss him when he was dropped earlier in the season.

It's nice to get the result, but I feel a few on here are getting carried away.

everyone normally moans for years on here it seems after a bad game, can't we go on and on about scoring five goals today?
