Fishing

He says they don't apply because the lake is stream fed and doesn't connect to other waterway systems. Classified in France under Au Libre. So no permits required under that classification.

He had his first 2 anglers on a couple of weeks ago and they caught 1,200lb's of fish between them.
Looks like a great venue from the web site, France really do have so excellent fishing venues.

I do a lot of sea/deep sea wreck fishing and without wishing to dampen your enthusiasm, if you want to get out in the fresh air for a few hours then all well and good, but if you want to catch some fish then forget it. It's in between seasons for winter / summer species and you've got more chance catching your finger on a hook than you have catching a fish in daylight hours i'm afraid.
Any basic tips and hints for a novice beach caster would not go a miss mate

He sold his house over here to invest in the this lake. Had loads of work done digging out the lake, restocking etc and this is his first season so fingers crossed for him. Would've cost him far more to buy something equivalent over here though.

Your best bet for a decent days fishing off the foreshore up there would be after a good northerly blow which brings the fish in closer to the shore scooping up the small marine life which has been discarded from their usual habitat. The last 3 hours of the ebb tide and first 3 hours of the flood tide are normally the most productive due to the tidal flow, and similar to most eastern coastlines north of Humberside best baits would be lugworm, peeler crabs(which are not available in numbers like they were a couple of years back) and mussels. Forget fishing during daylight hours from April - September, early morning or dusk being the most productive times. If the tide goes out a fair way then at low water have a walk along the coastline to identify any creeks, reefs, or rough ground which would attract fish looking for a meal, and also to suss out any areas with a lot of obstructions which will result in tackle losses. Hope this helps you.

In addition to whar Billy Best says do your homework on where you are going to fish, find out what baits are likely to catch and importantly casting distances.
Also try tipping your lug with squid, if you are going in the next few weeks forhet peeler crab they wont start their moult for another 4-6 weeks.

Bloomin' heck guys! Never knew there was so much to it, sounds very scientific. Just hope you all enjoy yourselves, sitting in companionable silence, meditating and getting slightly sozzled!

No chance of that when you are 18 miles out of whitby on the north sea aboard a 35 ft boat in 240 ft of water, with a swell that will guaratee at least 2 onboard honking up and wishing they were dead!.

You're going to need a bigger boat.

Just a bigger fishbox. One sunday last june my son and i caught 70 cod whilst out at sea up there, with a group of 8 guys from Blackburn who also averaged around 25 cod per head. The boat was sinking in the briny with all that additional weight on it!. Took me till 10.30 that night to gut and fillet them all.

Cheers for that....

It was suggested to me that Squid and mackerel are quite good baits up here as well.

Regards the rigs.....I have been using basic rigs like the picture below. I don’t want to get in to anything fancy to start with just basic stuff until i get my experienced at it. I have tried the 2 hook clip down rig but have snagged and lost 3 rigs in recent weeks.

Cheers Callan,

I have just registered with World Sea Fishing and they send out monthly electronic newsletters as well as having forums, so might try and get some advice from there, hopefully there are guys on there that have fished these areas, i suppose there is nothing better then local knowledge.

There is a kind of rocky enclave with a 500 meter stretch of beach about 10 mins from my village at a place called New Aberdour....might check that out, not sure how well it fishes at all and have never seen anyone fishing there, but no harm in trying it, it is one of the few areas of the British coast line that actually face directly North so not sure how that would effect the fishing......below is a rough idea of where it sits on the coast line.

Mackerel is a good allrounder as long as it is fresh, and when you wind in if it is still on the hook then rebait as it loses it's oily scent after a few minutes. If using squid then use bait elastic to hold it onto your hook when casting and peel the outer skin off them (so you are left with the white flesh/skin) as this gives off more scent , and also piercing the body section in a couple of places allows more juices to flow out. If you are buying your rigs rather than make them yourself then it is worth looking about as the cost varies a lot between manufacturers. Obviously keep away from the really cheap ones on the market as they are u/s/

I'd give it a miss. That massive sign will scare off any fish.

Don't know why you all don't do what I did and become a trawler skipper. That way you can catch all different types of fish. What you do is get a boat with a big net and away you go.Not really that easy but a lot of fun, working all hours God sends for no money and being restricted on what you can catch and how you can catch it.But oh boy in the summer coming home after being at sea all night and seeing all those poor office workers jamming themselves onto trains to go to London seemed to help a bit.On the down side gutting fish for hours on end with your fingers so cold you couldn't feel em and smelling like some old tarts underwear.

It was crap weather most of the time this afternoon.....down to two rods because Callan broke one ...Tsk!.......But a couple of hours at the first shelter on the pier and the overall catch was many crabs ...:'(.....and .....

*Drum Roll*

2 Large Plaice :liar: and a Bass......

The down side of this is that Callans Daughter caught all 3 of them ..
