And now for a bit of truth!

I think the other two could (not would) have stopped by someone six inches taller.

right the 3rd goal was out of Flavs reach, we would agree that someone 6 inches taller will have a further reach but taller keepers are not known best for their shot stopping. The taller the keeper the longer it takes him to get down on the floor. The reason why Flavs is a great shot stopper is his height, if he was taller he would command his area better but would not save so many shots.

I'm not blaming Darryl at all. He did all that he can. But there is a light-year between Darryl Flahavan and a Neil Sullivan or a Mark Crossley. You just can't buy that sort of experience.

Actually you can, it's what the transfer market is all about.

My worst fears were confirmed, when we played them at home, they looked a decent side and proved it at there place. I do feel sorry for all fans who went though, some off them taking time of work to get there, i think they deserved a better performance than that. By the way, trying to blame Flavs for the 2nd goal, please any chance he had of getting to the ball was taken away from him by Clarke sending him crashing into his own net.

Flavs was one of our best players in the first leg, and I felt the scoreline last night was a gross misjustice, particularly on him. FWIW, on the goals, if he'd have stood up he'd have had the pen saved, but few goalies do, the 2nd he didn't stand a chance, Clarke may have impeded him but it was going in either off Barrett or Price, the 3rd and 4th I can find absolutely no fault with and the 5th, the free kick, well he took a step the other way when the free kick was played short and that was the difference between him reaching it and not. In no way was I unhappy with his performance last night, for me the issue was with our midfield and that's down to Donny doing a really good job. Be proud of our team for what they've achieved.

Yes the fans were fantastic at 4 0 down, rather than be embarrassed we will make some noise! On the pitch was a complete anti climax after James (please don't sign him} Walker bottled yet another easy chance. The dissinterested Tommy Black was replaced by The Moose, a player that makes Kevin Maher look positive and exiting, and on the bench we have yes don't laugh Zoltan Liptak, Charlie Macdonald and a pantomime donkey called Revell. Now where has Hooper dissapeared to yet again, and why is he behind those three in the pecking order? O.K we got comprehensivly outclassed tonight but sorry Moussa, Macdonald and Revell aint taking us knowhere. At home was pretty powder puff stuff but tonight was pathetic, blood and guts to get us here and that was the best that we could come up with, one big let down i'm afraid!

All probably true, but why don't you just let us supporters who went last night have our moment, we deserve it. You sound like you've been waiting to give this post since we went on the run that got us to the play offs. Pathetic!

Yep, had a lot of chance there didn't he, one pen, one clattered by calamity Clarke, and 2 no keeper would have got near to according to the unbiased commentators, and you!

If you had as much real passion for this club as he has, you wouldnt be slagging them off at every opportunity. And for that 2nd goal, why didnt Flavs call it??????

What a shame that there is so much back-biting and recrimination in this thread. It takes away from reasoned debate and diminishes the achievements of the team in reaching the play-offs. For what its worth I think that Donny are the stand-out team in this division on last night's form. Disappointing though the result is they deserved to win and must have an excellent chance of defeating Leeds next weekend. As for us, I think the squad has the basis of a good team which should challenge for promotion next year. Well done Tilly and Brush.

Hind sight is a wonderful thin (if thats how you spell it) but the fact remains that had we beaten Vale we wouldnt have had to face the strongest side (after Swansea) over two games. Our momentum and consistant team sellection was as a major factor getting us into the playoffs and Tilly for whatever reasons he had for resting key players should have kept that going into the last game. By taking our foot off the gase we never got going again and found that spark and confiedence we have enjoyed over the last few great months.

Darryl for what, keeping us in it last week or this? Contrary to popular belief i criticise him when neccessary, tonight what could he do?

Where do you start?

Talk to his defenders?
Command his penalty area, or at least 6 yard box, or at least goal line?
Save a direct free-kick once every 6 years?
Fill the goal? A taller keeper has a much better chance of saving the penalty down the middle with his legs, or saving either of those Coppinger shots which went past his limited reach.

But no, its never Darryl's fault, its Revell's fault, the targetman who can't win headers because the goalkeeper can't kick the ball to within 20 yards of him.

Agree. Resting our midfield against Port Vale did us no good whatsoever. We should have played our strongest side.

I hope Tilly (and our fans) remember this lesson for next season and the LDV, and use it as a chance to get some confidence and momentum, not as a chance to give fringe players games.

Has anyone considered that Doncaster were just a much better team ??? In my opinion they were unlucky to lose 3-2 at the hall at the start of the season, they took us apart at the keepmoat in December, they were unucky not to beat us last friday and well last night they came good. They didnt let Bailey and McCormack play and we all know that when these two dont play we're a poor side. Yes Darryl could have saved the pen by standing up and Walker might've scored in the opening minutes but they didnt, thats life i'm afraid. I also truly believe that they are the best chance of keeping LEEDSSCUM from going up as i dont feel if we had made it we would win. Finally, as i said on another thread our fans last night were second to none and for that we should be proud. Next year will be our year again .......BELIEVE.

 Well said!

Although Donny are far better than Leeds now, next season Leeds will only get stronger Donny if they sell key players that have caught the eye will get weaker. My heart says I want Donny up but my head says from our aspect next season it will be better to loose Leeds now, otherwise there will only be one other automatic spot available.

Agree Weststander. I also think Donny were the best team to play at Roots Hall during the season. Being realistic we've done magnificently to reach the play-offs if you think back to the dark days of December/January. We have two excellent centre midfield players in Macca and Bailey who I think have carried the side on many occasions , they just weren't allowed to perform last night by an excellent side. When they aren't in control we look very ordinary. There's no reason we shouldn't be up there again next season though if we can keep Barnard fit.

Wiggy & Bertiebigbanana please

**** Off!!

Your negativity is not required. Yes we all know we played cack last night. But for christ sakes, let Tilly & Brush (and Rons cash) sort it out over the next 3 months. They saw exactly what we did, so i expect from the moment they woke up today they started to think about what to do next.

I, for one, have actually got a smile on my face today as i am proud to have been part of a something special last night so.......

To all the players who played last night,
to the players that stayed on the bench,
to the players that didn't make the matchday squad,
to Tilly and Brush and their backroom staff,
to uncle ron,
to all those at the club who have worked their bollocks off over the season,
and finally to the FANS!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving us what has been ANOTHER season to remember. I am sure we will come again next year and i truly CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

Moooooooooooooooooooooos was almost useless last night, hooper(i not keen on btw) must surely be ahead of Maccy d given his form while on loan, couple this with simon francis reverting to being a non concentrating right back plus the fact Donny rovers are a very very good team(especially in midfield)

Another truth is the 2,000 were probably louder than 33,000 of us would have been at wembley, so its nice to go out on a high with such outside praise. Any outsiders and neutrals watching sky yesterday couldn't help but be impressed, and who knows it might even spark a feeling of mutual respect and sportsmanship among fans up and down the country next season.

An exceelent post Westander. Believe me that was the best Rovers have played all season, things just clicked on the night, I've seen plenty of gutless performances this season. At HT many Rovers fans were saying if only we had played liked that against Cheltenham we would have been in the CCC now. I think some of you are being a bit hard on your team, you did incredibly well to get into the playoffs and Tilly has a nucleaus of a side that will be challenging again for promotion next season. Keep the faith.

Been on here non stop i recall!

The most predictable thing about last night's result was that Wiggy would reappear. And you know you haven't been on here "non stop", during our unbeaten run it was great becasue we did not have to read your tripe. Oh, another thing I am STILL waiting for your replacement for Tilson, or is that yet more of your selected memory.

Oh well, we cannot lose for three months now so at least she will not darken SZ for a while.
