Joe Kinnear

Fantastic.They'll not be making a mug of Joe and get away with it.

JK is in my eyes up there with Ferguson,a managerial legend.
A man that kept a team ,who came from nothing, in the top six of the best league.Lest we forget,if it weren't for the ban on English clubs at the time,that Joe Kinnear would've been testing himself against the others in the UEFA cup with the Crazy Gang.Yes,little old Wimbledon,a club with no ground of their own nor training ground.
As a player it's a case of -show us yer medals! 258 games for Spurs,two league cup medals,an FA cup medal in '67,a UEFA cup medal in '72.All winners medals of course.26 caps for Rep of Ire.
Then after stints in Nepalm and Dubai as a coach he gets the call from his old team-mate Dave Mackay to help him run Donny Rovers at the old Belle Vue ground.

Anyhow,back to the days at Wimbledon and there was perhaps an unhealthy problem there with reporters writing OTT stuff.
The problem became nipped in the bud a bit though by Sam Hamman's "little list".If a scribe had made it onto the pages of his book then he would be dealt with as follows;
"The next time they come to report on one of our matches,or come to our training ground,they will be captured "said Sam."Firstly they will have water buckets emptied over their heads,next a bucket of blackcurrant juice.For a serious offence,they will be stripped naked and dragged across the grass and thrown in the water".It happened,at least once!

For the press to ridicule a man who's first signing for the Dons was Vinnie Jones,make him captain and watch him run through a brick wall for him is a huge mistake.8 seasons in the Premier league,3 times top ten,3 semi-finals.

Write Joe Kinnear off at your peril.

I gotta say the guys got some balls to come out and say that knowing full well what the repercussions in the media would be saturday morning.

I was at his first conference and, in fairness to the press, he did make his own trouble. He referred to Geremi as 'Jeremiah', insisted that his touchline ban was for an offence two years ago, some two years after his last job, and repeatedly told reporters that he'd only accepted the job the night before, despite the fact that he'd been talking to SSN about accepting it some time before that.

That said, nothing gets the players attention like declaring war on the journalists. The players are brought up to be scared of the press, to watch their step with them. To have someone like Kinnear crashing into them like a bowling ball must be a uniquely liberating experience, something which was reflected in their vastly improved second half last night.

Anyway, those journos acting all hurt about being called ***** should really stop pretending. Kinnear is making those pages fill themselves right now. They should be thanking him!

Exactly. Anyone who has a passing familiarity with Richard "Dirty" Desmond, or indeed even Rusbridger from time to time, will be fully aware that that language is heard on a weekly, if not daily, basis at the vast majority of newspapers. With the exception of the Telegraph, and perhaps the Indy & FT, the rest of the press pack is deeply potty-mouthed...

Matt

I think Kinnear is a genius. instead of sititng on his backside every Saturday either on his settee or in a radio booth, he is doing the job he loves. He is also getting paid a fair bit for this job. Also if it goes pear shaped what has he lost? If he gets results it can only look good on his CV.
Its early days yet but after yesterdays result its lookin good.
