£50 Killer Predictions

I agree! Shame it's going to be over a lot quicker than i thought.

I guess the lives things maybe could of been higher, that is not a knock at B at all...but if we all had 10 or more the winner would still of been the guy with best results.

But this is Killer!

Still good fun though.

Have never done it before so hard to get it dead on, I'll know better next time, either 7 or 8. You don't want everyone going the whole way or you lose the killer aspect.

There's been some surprising results so far, South Korea, USA, Greece and Japan, which has done a lot of damage! But with some real 'certainty' games coming up I can see this running for a while yet.

I'm mulling over running one for next season in some format. Obviously it shouldn't clash with Bluebloods main one as this is a one off set of scores so not the same with the weekly predicting. But I'm thinking of something charity based to get plenty of people involved (happy to put some cash up again, makes me feel like i'm doing something useful then!!).

Great idea there B, and i'm sure it won't impact on my one too much (this town aint big enough etc etc)

If this does end fairly quickly are you going to run enough straight off ?? You already have the scores submitted for starters

Hmmmm, I like you're thinking, could be a 'plate' competition.

How about this. After tomorrow's games, everyone is back in with another 5 lives (first one continues to conclusion) and we resume. As people drop out of the first one, they drop into the plate with their 5 lives (so they have an advantage from staying in the first one longer). I'll put up another £50 and the winner of the plate can nominate a charity for it to be donated to.

Top idea B, go for it.

What about aswell just for a laugh to see how badly people do, to start going into minus numbers?

Seeing as I have just been shafted by Japan and Paraguay, I think this is a corking idea

Well well, once again the SZ predictions are way off! What an exciting game it was too, not exactly kicked into life yet this World Cup!! A New Zealand win could seal this for JoshC the way things are going.

Not being funny but the problem isn't with the scoring, it's with the predictions. Italy only drawing their opening game wasn't an upset, it was pretty predictable, likewise a poor French team - who might come good later on in the tournament but were never likely to come flying out of the gates like the Dutch and the Germans have - and our own England, up against opponents far better than most are prepared to give credit for.

The likes of South Korea and Japan were harder to call, but it wasn't so long ago that they were semi-finalists and quarter-finalists respectively.

If you want to change the scoring for next time, I'd suggest more than a single life for getting the score spot on.

So far there's been 462 predictions:

Right - 200
Wrong - 262

Of the 200 right results, there's been 41 scores dead on, pretty much one each from 11 games.

So if you made it:

1.5 extra lives for a correct score
0.5 extra lives for a correct result
Lose a life if you get it wrong

It could make it a bit tighter (and will certainly keep it running longer).

The reason for the halves is that making it 1 and 2 would mean the vast majority would actually start increasing their lives, losing the killer aspect of it. So you effectively need two results to get an extra life (if you're on half a life you're out) and two correct scores will give you an extra three lives.

It's slightly more complicated but I think it could work and will keep the interest up a bit longer
