I think I may raise a glass of red tonight in honour of Sir Alex. Wasn't it his 20th anniversary in charge of Man U or something too?

Yep, something like that and he was presented with a tea service - bet it never made it home in one piece!

Happy Freddy day everyone, what a day, what a player....and yet others seem to have nothing better to do than doubt the man!

Cheers Fred!

A good ten maybe fifteen years ago now, a wise old man told me "You have to have the bad times to really appreciate the good".

The life of a football fan and particularly a Southend fan is never more truer than in that line from the old chap.

That Epic night along with a handful of other occasions in my 20 odd + years supporting the Blues really does make all those 'bad times' worthwhile - when on very very rare occasions, these memorable freak results and occasions come around, they are so special for genuine fans of 'lesser clubs' (well in stature anyways).

Plastic fans and fans of big teams enjoy the thrills of winning big games, trophies and titles - but I am telling you now, none of them fans would have felt what WE felt that evening and still feel tonight...six years later.

Oh dear, poor davewebb'sbrain is obviously a bit upset at the jollifications around on this day, what a shame!!! :hilarious:

Fantastic night. I can't believe it's been six years of me crowing to Man Yoo supporters, only for them to reply 'Yeah but it was a weakened team!!1'. Horsesh*t.

I remember that night was watching it live with a friend who supports man u when we scored he went mad at the man u keeper

Well done Freddy:cheers:
du du du du Freddy Eastwood :loyalsupporter:

still remember this like yesterday and remember freddy teeing it up and the bloke behind me say this is too far out and then bang 1-0 and i said to him it wasnt too far out and then he just argued saying it was. at the end of the day we are the ONLY team in the world to have a 100% record v Man U

Was worth the hours queuing in the cold to have the privelege to be there, our view from the south was directly behind and everyone around was going absolutely mental bar a couple of "local glory hunters" who went very quiet

I think this should be a local Bank holiday

Weakened team my arse, they had 10 internationals playing that night.

Exactly. That's what I've been saying to them for six years. To which their stock response is 'Well, it was only the League Cup, or whatever, so, y'know...'

rEADING ALL THESE POSTS BOUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I JUST REMEMBER READING IT IN OUR PAPER BACK HERE IN MELBOURNE AND THINKING ,THE PAPER HAD SURELY MADE A MISTAKE,I JUST WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE:sad:

Remember being there after leaving school early to make the journey from Northampton and soak up the atmosphere. Will always remember our fans rushing their coach as it entered Roots Hall. What a fantastic night that any Southend fan lucky enough to be there will never forget!

Never forget that night, simply fantasic.

Had great fun sending these to every Man Utd fan I knew.

That tear has obviously blurred your vision and you couldn't see the keyboard properly when typing that post.

Brilliant night, great goal, the Freddy of old was great

Really? A few nice touches and a half decent goal but he didn't work very hard that night and should have passed it when he was clean through from a tight angle towards the end of the second half. Very selfish play, I thought.

Wouldn't you have rather had a harder worker on from the start? James Lawson, perhaps?

Just look at what Rooney and Ronaldo has done since then.... They should have beaten us but didn't and got embarrased.

Also, the 100% winning record stat really isn't that surprising or that impressive. The better stat is that we're the only team in England with a positive record against Manchester United.
