I have just checked the fares on the day of the match and the journey time is about 1.5 hours and less than 20 quid one way from the airport.

Pretty sure there are direct trains from Manchester Airport to Blackpool North. These will stop at Kirkham, up the steps and turn right out of the station and keep going for a brisk 15 minute walk.

Grand National is on 13th April. Perhaps look at alternative routes from either Kings Cross or St Pancras. May be cheaper to Leeds and then across the Pennines to Kirkham via Preston?

I won't be going but there is a hotel inside the stadium priced at between £125 and £155 per night plus £20 extra per room for breakfast.

I managed to get the cost down by buying London-Preston leg separately and breaking the journey at MK on the way back. Took it down to about £75 not including travel to and from London.

Does mean you have to spend six minutes in Milton Keynes though, so not for the faint hearted.
