Mrs. OS and I sadly returned to normality on Tuesday afternoon after a brilliant festive season at my brother's... where lots of drink, food, prezzies and relaxation was punctuated by some great football (and I'm not just talking about my skills on FIFA 2005!).
Our visit covered the matches versus Wycombe, Mansfield, Rushden and Kidderminster. Sadly, Mrs. OS had to miss the Wycombe match due to a stinking cold. She was afraid that she'd be too ill to perform a couple of scheduled songs at the Hall before the Mansfield game two days later.
She missed, what in my opinion, was a spirited performance. I had hoped to see Eastwood add to his tally, and he complied. A great goal and a good performance from an exciting (if sometimes frustrating) striker. The football feast almost got off to a disastrous start... with the game's go ahead touch and go an hour before kick-off.
The Mansfield game was a let-down on the pitch. Mansfield had a Malta international (Luke Dimech) playing in centre back, to add to the Malta connection (Mrs. OS was well enough, just, to peform before kick-off). It would have been great if OUR side of the connection was on the winning side, but it wasn't to be. Never-the-less, Christine had a fantastic time singing on the hallowed turf.
Next up was Rushden & Diamonds. It was a strange feeling. I've never felt so sure, going into a match, that we'd take all 3 points as I had felt before this game. Thankfully, I was proved right. I thought it was a cracking display, and I was even happier that Tilson's decision to shake things up a bit (re: team selection) paid off.
Lastly, we went up to Kidderminster. Mrs. OS slept most of the way up there in the car... and part of the way back... although East Stand Drummer Boy's snoring was the entertainment on the way down!
We badly wanted a win for our last game for a while... and despite a good performance (apart from the first part of the second half), it looked like we were going to have to make do with a point (or worse!). The team showed fantastic spirit as the reacted positively to my wishes (yes, credit goes to me!) and knocked in two late, amazing goals in the dying minutes.
What a fortnight. Great support, a strong, well-balanced team (yes... I can say that again after so many years wishing I could) and 3 out of 4 games resulting in a win.
It was also great putting faces to more and more SZ names and meeting up with South Bank Hank after so many years.
Thanks agains to Grim Up North and family for a cracking time.
See you all in Cardiff I hope.
