Huge off-season for him then.

The big concern to me was that he hadn't adjusted mentally to it. We've had a few players who've lost their pace who were fine central defenders for us - Spencer Prior and Rob Newman for example - but they'd all made that adjustment and come to terms with the fact that their legs weren't going to get to balls they once would have made. They were also both taller and better in the air to start with. Losing that spring in their jump was less of an issue for them as it is for a smaller centre-half.

Thats a very good point. Hopefully he can learn that, I still think he's got some football left in him, although he could do with losing a stone in my opinion.

If the manager feels he can do a job then fair enough --- as long as PS has the balls to drop him straight away if he isn't cutting it.

Who was it was adamant he was off and already making moves to move his stuff down to Exeter? :whistling:

I like Barks, and on his day, he's a very competent CB. He did struggle a lot towards the end of the season, but hopefully any fitness issues can be resolved before the new season starts. He should never be our last man though, simply hasn't got the legs for it.

IMO this does show a lack of ambition ,his legs were gone last season. He is a nice bloke but far to slow and not what we need at the back.If he has re-signed just as cover maybe not so bad.

Barkers legs have gone i don't think its to do with injury, last season many times the ball got stuck underneath his feet before Christmas(while not injured) in dangerous areas to many times, his feet never reacted to the brain instruction fast enough so got caught on the ball and this will affect him its all very well when the play is moving to towards you at pace that's easier to cope with but when it slows down he cant cope with the change of pace so he will get left for dead next year against young quick players and get exposed it happens to every Pro when times come and is a concern i'm sure he is aware of
Still good to keep as class squad member and not team captain he could do a job for sure as cover but as first choice C/H
and skipper those days have gone i think especially as he was not a natural C/H to begin with

I can't say I'm in agreement with some of the above ........ I am still hoping that we will get another central defender (or two?) and they prove to be good players ....... thus leaving Barker to be more on the bench - but his experience and reliability will be valuable.

I'm not sure about him being captain for the next season though.

Barker is clearly unfit and too slow (by miles) and he's our captain? Our leader? One of our best players?

I am surprised he's been offered any sort of deal. Surely we can do better.

Bloody hell, give Barker a chance! Although I agree with the general consensus that he looked worryingly out of sorts at times last season, a rest over the summer will hopefully freshen him up as I think he played through injury for periods. Let's not write him off.

Loved him season before last but I fear age has caught up with him and it's time we moved on. Still have faith in PS.
