Breaking News Barney off to Southamton

Seems Kevin Lisbie being heavily linked to the Saints now (and he has worked with Pardew in the past) - cannot see them wanting both...

Ah, the age old sign of desperation.

Bought by 4 teams at the base of the Premiership with the aim of staying up; all 4 were relegated.

Brilliant fact, that...

Thing is, do we really want a player who "doesn't want to be here"

Sooner this is sorted the better in my opinion.

Sorry, not on the subject but has anyone else been able to listen to Tilly's preview for Wycombe. Thought it may be quite interesting to see his demeanour this afternoon in relation to the unfolding events. Sadly I can't seem able to sign in to Player at the moment, thus that little avenue of interest and pleasure is closed to me. Anyone else having a similar problem?

Yogi,
Also having problems here in Spain.Pehaps it's :censored:

I agree with you Seany T, but until we find another Barrett, but who plays up front, anyone we have who gets into double figures on the score sheet by January is going to be tapped up by a bigger club and be off unfortunately

If we only want players who really 'want to be here' then we better start cloning adam barrett pretty sharpish. The second we start signing players without ambition to improve themselves via a) promotion or b) playing well enough to get signed by a bigger team, is the second we get relegated. As proud as we are to be Southend, we are not the pinnacle any player.

Hang Your Heads In Shame.

I've been astounded by the attitude of some today. As far as I'm aware Lee Barnard has not come out and said "I don't want to be here", not does he strike me as the type of player to refuse to play in this situation, or to not be fully committed to the cause.

Aside from an unfortunate injury record he's always put in 100% when wearing the shirt, and has this season kept us competitive virtually single handedly.

So he might go to a bigger team? Wake up, you support Southend FFS!

When he goes he'll have my upmost thanks & respect and my best wishes.

Don't forget though people £200k for somebody who can do a Clarkey & walk for nothing in 5 months time is actually a good (but unfortunate for the playing side of SUFC) bit of business.

Don't get me wrong, Lee has always given his all for our club. He has earned himself a move with the goals he has put away this season.

But, it seem's to me reading some of the bits today, that the board/management feel he doesn't want to be here anymore. As such he needs to move on asap, to the benefit of all concerned.

Drastic Surgeon is right to a certain extent. Barney hasn't come out and whined about wanting to move clubs - he has a bit of professionalism, and fair play to him for that. I also suspect that, unlike messrs. Bailey and Eastwood, he would still work his socks off for the team if these matters were to drag on.

However, if he or his agent have made it clear that he doesn't want to be here then it is best that he is moved on asap. No matter how professional a player is, it is bound to cause unrest amongst the rest of the squad if they are wary that he doesn't want to stay. Plus, as has been said, we can't risk losing him for nothing. We only paid £35k for the bloke, so we'd be making a tidy profit.

It's if the money isn't re-invested and a replacement acquired that would make me angry.

Which means that I'm going to be angry.

Any sell ons due to Spurs?

I think spurs get 20% of the profit

I've heard nothing about any sell-ons so I couldn't really say. It would be odd for a Prem club to negotiate a sell-on with a lower league club, but who knows? Neither Spurs nor SUFC ever gave the ins and outs of the deal. We got him remarkably cheap though, due to his injury problems at Spurs I think. They might have still seen potential in him and thought that he'd do well for us if he overcame his injury problems, and that could have led to a sell-on clause being negotiated to make up for the relatively small fee.

Yogi we have been unable to watch the last 3 Tilly interviews, maybe the guy is being blocked, can't think why. I have tried on 3 different machines in 3 different locations. The mind boggles.

Can see Patterson being part of this deal if true - £200,000 + Patterson on 6 month loan.

The way I read on Sky Sports was our first offer being rejected, I think that is a transfer fee as opposed to a loan deal.

It looked like he turned down a loan move to us in November, when the window was open, but now we are trying to bring him in permenantly.

£200k seems incredibly low in my opinion. Yes, his contract is up in the summer, and yes our financial situation probably means people will try and pick players up cheap from us but I'd still be looking around £300k - £400k.

Perhaps £200k, additional fees like sell on, winning promotion etc and Patterson then we'd be talking.

I've spoke to my man in the know at Spurs, and he knows nothing about a sell on clause being put in place by Spurs.

Leeds have today listed Andy Robinson for loan. I'd suggest, as we've tried damn hard to sign him in the past, if Barney ends up heading North, we should try and get him till the end of the season with Leeds paying all of his sizeable wages. That way, if he flops, he's not costing us a whack.

It did cross my mind...........perhaps Tilly may have said something that didn't fit in well with unfolding events? Tried on Google Chrome and they still had the article on M'Voto as the latest news headline. Probably all nothing..........
....just a technical hitch.......but it does make you wonder!
