It certainly was an "in your face" atmosphere...I was there....sent them home with no doubts about the depth of feelings amongst "The Hall faithful".

If you want to understand about B***y F*y don't read that article and instead consider the following facts:

FACT 1: Southend were well placed for promotion (4th?): a team on the up and playing the most exhilarating football

FACT 2: Birmingham were well placed for relegation, which they subsequently and deservedly achieved

FACT 3: B***y F*y had preached loyalty, had claimed that he'd "walk on broken glass to get to Southend" and that he loved Southend

FACT 4: Birmingham were found guilty by the Football League of poaching not only the manager and assistant manager but also a player under contract

FACT 5: F*y tapped up and unsettled at least half of that side. Otto, Poole, Edwards, Hunt and Sansome all subsequently joined Birimingham

FACT 6: Birmingham's then owners are morally bankrupt

FAT 1: B***y F*y

With respect to ambition
Not one Southend fan begrudged Chrissy Powell his move to another club in the division as everyone accepted that he was moving up
Not one Southend fan begrudged Stanley his move to another club in the division as everyone accepted that he was moving up

This wasn't about ambition, it was about greed and broken promises

Fact 4: We slightly got our own back though. A few months later Barry Fry asked Vic Jobson to release David Howells' player registration (don't forget this was pre-Bosman) but Vic refused. So Howells continued to be a Southend player even though he was a coach at Birmingham. This effectively ended his playing career.

Fact 5: Many years ago, and many years after this incident, I happened to bump into Peter Taylor on holiday. Me and a couple of friends spent the entire night talking to him in a bar. He told us that a few years after he was sacked by Vic he was invited to Chris Powell's wedding, and most of the players, including Otto and Gridlet were there. According to Taylor they all apologised to him for not trying their hardest after Fry left.

Many would have preferred him not to be sold to one of our promotion rivals at the time; a turning point in the ambitions of the club.

We went from a team who had only lost twice in a dozen Division One (Championship) games to one that only won twice in thirteen games. We went from a play off position to bottom half and were relegated next season.

They didn't try because F*y had unsettled them and tapped them up and was making promises to come and take them to Birmingham at the end of the season.

I don't see how we got our own back by refusing to release David Howell's registration. Did you see him play?

And yet he left with only everyone's best wishes (other than against us).

Was one of those two wins actually against Derby?

Fry left saying he believed Brum were a sleeping giant.
Well done Judas you woke them up!

I always thought myself to be of a trusting nature and ready to see the positive side of a person but with BF it all goes horribly wrong. Can't forget, can't forgive. My priest said 'he'll die screaming'. Horrible in fact but the sentiment is heartfelt.

I remember him saying in the media 'I'm Birmingham through and through' and he'd only been there a day! Judas ******* !

I still remember the 1st game after he left, it was such a turning point. Gary Poole Missed a penalty and we lost 3-0 at home to west brom.. The rest is history

Do you remember the blow-up Mr Blobby in the home dugout? I recall us winning 3-1 at Derby not long before Fry left. It was a fantastic performance. We could have challenged for promotion that year. I've held Fry, Karen Brady and her henchmen in very low regard ever since. Ditto the West Midland plod, who gave us hell at St Andrews. Scumbags the lot of them.

I remember the Fat Judas saying that he would craw over broken glass to be manager of Southend United FC . You can not believe a word that comes out of his mouth .

I still have a VHS of that seasons highlights. It's unbelievable how ****ing good we were for half that season, and also the talent throughout the whole squad. I'm not sure it's ever been matched since, we were destined for the premier league..amazing how things can change....

Karen Brady and the porn kings...Brummies through and through!!! Remember Karen getting a warm welcome as well
