Broadwater United
Youth crime is high on the agenda in our capital, and numerous grassroots schemes are springing up to try and keep kids from deprived areas on the straight and narrow.

At one project at Broadwater Farm in Haringey, veteran community worker Clasford Stirling has been using football to teach boys as young as eight some valuable life skills.

As a surrogate father to many of his young charges, he instils discipline, punctuality and teamwork.

Today more than 200 boys play for Broadwater United in the Middlesex League, and the team has a reputation as a hothouse for future premiership talent.

Linford Christie went to meet this remarkable man and his young protégés.
