My colleagues lap top has died, most probably due to a virus. Can anybody recommend somewhere she can go to fix the problem, other than the drongos at PC World?

Thanks all, and a nice heap of green to the helpers.

Cheers
Harry

In what way has it died ?

Viruses dont normally kill a PC dead. Can it switch on ?

She may have a recovery disc with it which should take it back to its original state.
As Jam man says, a virus won't normally kill it. If it wont turn on, the battery could be screwed, even if plugged into the mains. How old is it? May be under warranty still!

If all else fails, I don't mind taking a look!

Thanks chaps I can't answer at the moment as she is at lunch. I doubt if it will still be under warranty. Will get back to you.
Cheers

Checking on wherabouts of the recovery disc. A new battery was fitted in Dubai about 5 months ago.
It's a laptop and about two years old so it's out of warranty, but I'll get back about the recovery disc, meantime have some green chaps.

if you stopped looking at child porn the old bill would not have shut you down!!! :finger:

when you first boot up ....go into safe mode....from there you can go back to a time the pc was fully functional and re sets its settings.....

Yep if its XP and system restore is enabled you can indeed roll back to an earlier time.

All depends on what the problem is of course.

As the only clue so far is it has "died" Im actually guessing its going to be a hardware issue but you cant always go on what you are told. My mum told me her pc was broken and what she meant was her outlook had sorted her emails into alphabetical order rather than date order. How I laughed after driving all the way over.....

If it's hardware, then more than likely it will be beyond economical repair. Check the House contents Insurance and see if she is covered for accidental damage - then drop it!

Some warranties run for 3 yrs (Dell Lattitude and some IBM Thinkpads for example)

:hilarious: Best idea so far.

Long way to go for a new battery!!!

Is the power supply dead?

She was working for us in the Gulf.

Nope it powers on, that's it.
