Has anyone else noticed it’s much quieter out? I did this morning when I went for my daily walk. Not sure if that was partly due to the weather though. Let’s hope the numbers start going down as soon as possible. It’s 2 weeks since Christmas ..

I left work at just before 2. Normally on a Friday it would take me forever to get home but I breezed through the 406 and M11 was easy too. Considerably quieter but not as much as the first lockdown, that was eerie!

We have already spent a conservative half a trill.

Not quite. From my best recollection, the Governments response to the pandemic has cost us around £300bn.

Which is still £200bn shy of the £500bn it cost us to bail out the banks over a decade ago.

From BBC Sport...

++

More than 100 positive Covid-19 cases have been recorded after tests were carried out among players at staff at 66 English Football League clubs.

A total of 112 individuals were positive out of the 3,507 players and club staff tested this week.

++

A rate of 3,193 per 100,000 pro-rata.....

Guess it wasn't just the west ham and spurs players socialising over Christmas.

Seriously though that's pretty bad numbers. Employers have a responsibility to keep their staff safe in the work place - if this is being transmitted within clubs then they need to have a serious look at what they're doing and ultimately stop if they can't train etc safely. They don't need the Govt to tell them that.

That's what we need again. It didn't seem that quiet around Leigh at around 11.

Exactly this! i feel the difference is first time people were worried, and like everyone a completely unknown situation was worrying.
This time however there seems to be more relaxed approach.
What I don't understand is first time people will say "i dont know anyone with it"
This time I'm sure everyone will yet have a completely different attitude.

Don't forget a lot of the bail out for banks was to buy shares which were subsequently sold, thus effectively reimbursing the treasury.

I'm not sure how much we got back, but I believe what was sold, was sold at a profit.

Very important point, whether you agree with the taxpayer bailing out these multi-billion pound businesses it wasn't just giving away money. We held a stake in those businesses which were then/wil be recouped once that share is sold on.

With shutting down and paying people to stay at home that money is gone never to be seen again. We can't afford to do it but we can't seem to afford not to do it now.

This is not going to end well either way.

It isn’t an either/or. It’s not economy vs public health. The economies that have done ok over the past 12 months are those that have taken the public health seriously and acted quickly. We’ve continually been late and half arsed and that has prolonged the lockdown and economic impact while also resulting in a huge number of avoidable deaths. We’ve ****ed it.

I think you're spot on, it's so busy outside when I went for a walk. None of this is going to work at all, it needs to be stricter, too many people are dying.

Boris is a pleaser that's why, he wants to be seen as the good guy. Throughout this mess he's made mistakes to please the public, where, as a leader you have to make tough decisions which may not be popular with some.

Def quiet ish out and about. Still too many old people dicking about being out and about but hey ho!

My daughter, ICU nurse had her jab today at the end of working day. The hospital vaccintors had a few jabs to be used up and called for staff to get them done, Excellent news and a big release of stress for her and us.

They should have been done first in my eyes, I'm pleased for you though that she's had her jab, it must be a relief for you.

My brother in law has also just been short listed for the vaccine. He's working on a Covid ward, probably at this moment in time too. All the regular nurses on this ward, 21 of them, have either tested positive or self isolating. As a result, nurses and staff have been seconded from else where, him included. The vaccine can't come quick enough.

Excellent and very reassuring.
We have had some surplus and in some of the vials of 5 and 10 have been managing to withdraw 6 and 11 doses so have been offering to front line staff and carers in the care homes
Within the profession we are all quite angry that these staff were not given this vaccine first given the roles they have and exposure they have.

Yep, as you know, the ambulance staff have not all been given theirs yet. Front line staff should have been amongst the first on the list.

My missus has gone for her first jab today. Bill Gates will have his work cut out trying to control this one.

Anyone else on here had theirs done yet?

Neither have NHS Blood & Transplant for who my wife works. My missus hasn't been able to work for the last week as too many of her team have now tested positive.
