Crop Marks - Hadleigh

Having an interest in Archaeology, I wondered if it was possible to use Google Earth to look for cropmarks. My Father in law has said that there is a Roman Villa in the field at the back of his house (Tattersall Gardens) so I took a look. Can't see anything in that field, but a few fields along towards Hadleigh is a cracking crop mark:

51° 33' 06'', 0° 35' 57''

Really complicated mark, has there been a maze there, for instance? Or is it a genuine cropmark. One as clear as that must be know about, can anyone shed any light on it?

Ooh, call out Tony Robinson. Not sure it's a maze, maybe the foundations of a building that used to be there?

They seem a sensible bunch...

It's the Maize Maze at Hadleigh Country Park mate!!

Nothing more than that I'm afraid.

Smithy is right is the Maize Maze that is setup by the Salvation Army Farm, although it looks like there will not be one this year. I am guessing that is down to crop rotation needs.

Da Farm!

Thanks guys - I was thinking it must be the maze - looks very pretty from up above. It did prompt me to do a bit of googling, and it turns out that Google Earth is actualy quite a useful tool for spotting Archaeological sites. One guy apparently turned up around 100 sites in France and 25% of them were previously unknown.

Hypothetical question:

Could you use Google Earth to keep an eye on any children you were responsible for while you were down the pub?

Perfectly acceptable.., unless you were keeping them in the basement Austrian style ..
