I think there is two ways to look at this. PS used the summer and pre season to bring in shed loads of triallists, probably in hope that he might unearth a couple of gems. Not sure this quite worked out other than playing lots of freindlies with players not having a clue who was who and many of us on here getting hopes up that some might sign and hoping others didnt.

Ive got the feeling that PB will work differently and yes there may be the odd trialist in games but with his experience and that of Dave Penny (and the new scout) im guessing they will have their targets and try to sign them up rather than waste time looking at bus loads of triallist.

That came from FR so can't be trusted.

Indeed. As did these others:

Lionel ainsworth on trial with southend with phil brown looking to bolster his attacking options

Mark Wright, former Shrewsbury Town winger is in talks with Phil Brown over a possible move to Southend. The winger is now a Free Agent

Lionel Ainsworth is rumoured to be the winger that Phil Brown wants to bring in to Southend.
Kevan Hurst will switch to the left if Ainsworth arrives. Hurst played on the left a number of times last season

Ainsworth and Wright would both be worth a look .Remember Wright playing well against us a coupel of seasons back at home.

Yeah Wright was a standout player for Shrewsbury in their promotion year but I think he has had his injury problems recently. 31 now and appears to have had problems settling at Brighton and Bristol Rovers.

Is this Ainsworth in the background?
