I have a feeling that history will be kinder to Dubya than his clown-like successor. The 'community organiser' is in way over his head.

i love the abuse for the 'community organiser' tag, as if it's somehow vastly inferior to living of your family's money and reputation, running some failing businesses and getting down to some quality substance abuse..

You left out the fact that Bush was a popular elected state Governer. And Obama hardly came up from the gutter did he?

The ultimate test will be whether Obama can match Bush's achievement of two terms. I think the smart money is on a Carter-esque one term abomination - something I'm willing to put up with if we get another Reagan.

What achievements ?

What achievements ?

Being elected again - 'the achievement of being elected for two terms' might have read better.

But to answer your question, keeping America safe for 7 years after 9/11 was a fairly notable achievement wouldn't you say? No, I'm sure you wouldn't.

It's interesting that the hysterical American war protestors have given up the fight now that the war's being run by a Socialist. They seem to only care about American soldiers dying when a Texan Republican is Commander-in-Chief.

The first was a massive reinterpretation of democracy other was lead by fear and the polarisation of sticking with the devil they know or chancing massive change in a "war" like environment. Even Colin Powell got peeved off with him at the end !!!

You're more than just word blind Osy. Even the leftist rag The NY Times has conceded that Bush won Florida. And Powell's a coward and a buffoon for throwing in his lot with a Socialist just because they share skin pigmentation.

I have a feeling that in the midst of all this insanity, someone's going to pop the President. So much hatred is being stirred up by some seriously deranged Repubs and it's all going to go horribly wrong.

Hammer him for his policies, hammer him for his decisions, but to label him as a racist is ludicrous. To call him Hitler is infantile. To lie about his healthcare system is intolerable*. It's all going a bit scary over there

* - Don't worry, I know you're not one of 'those', but there are an awful lot of them out there.

oooh oooh , threw in because he had the same skin pigmentation ouchy .
Well bully for the NY Times i say , but i think history may find brother Jed a little more Machiavellian in his workings then Obama is found to be .
(its not word blindness its a problem with the parts of the brain that can interpret word,s sounds and memory , of which George W is also a member of the neurologically differentiated crowd (its the new collective grouping btw theres badges and everything )

To be fair Georgw W probably wasn't as bad intellectually dependant on his level of Dyslexia however Chaney , and Rumy did call the shots, and very few political anyalists or historians of either spectrum will denie that .

I think you're being hoodwinked by the Obama-loving media out there Slip, I really do. I don't really see what's deranged about going to town hall meetings, arranged by Democratic politicians so that objections can be heard regarding the bill, and protesting. Surely that's the highest form of democracy. Or is only 'noble' to protest when you oppose a Republican presisdent or a Conservative PM? It's not infantile to compare Obama to the National Socialists - his policies are consistent with the Nazi (and Communist) ideal of the State controlling everything. And who's lying about his healthcare reforms? His own budget office warned that it would increase the deficit by trillions.

You obviously have as keen a grasp on the politics of the NY Times as you have on the English language. For such an instrument of the left to declare in favour of Bush, there must have been some fairly irrefutable evidence.

Indeed i did leave it out- just making the point (which I'm sure you'd agree with) that background can be skewed to make whatever point you like, and that people should be judged on their actions.

I believe that the rules of debate clearly state that the first person to compare their opponent to Hitler loses by default. The left were guilty of doing it to Bush and now the right are doing it to Obama. It's not an honourable way to debate.

Protest is one thing, but turning up with a gun and a sign saying, "Death To Obama" is another level entirely.

Agreed. And Obama's actions thus far have been disastrous. Judging by his plummeting approval ratings, I'm not the only one who thinks that.

I agree that the gun-toting buffoon is a disgrace to his cause. I am in favour of second amendment rights, and the gentleman in question was quite within his rights to carry an assault rifle in the state of Arizona, but it was a thoroughly stupid thing to do and gave the left-wing media a softball opportuntiy to paint all health care protestors as lunatics. You also make a very fair point about Hitler, but I would contest that the comparison has more basis in fact int his case than it did when applied to Bush.

Editorial or individual piece by a reporter ? If the paper it self comes out and yes yes we agree (though that may simply have been resignation of the fact that it happened ) or a sole reporter that makes a big difference.

Social benifits btw do not make a totalitarian goverment or nanny state maybe instead of getting mad conservative MEP's on FOX media maybe they should talk to teh Norwegians or Swedes ?

If you think the Swedish system is the way to go, then you're even madder than I thought. Sweden is a country that has mortgaged its future on providing goodies to the electorate. When Sweden's declining birth rate means that there aren't enough people earning a buck to support the bureaucracy, the unemployed and the retired, the whole system will go boom.

I also think Daniel Hannan's a damn sight smarter than you. In both senses of the word.
