Can anyone recommend a driving instructor in the Southend / Leigh area?

My son started lessons pre-lockdown, but I have so far been unable to get in contact with the instructor at the moment. May need another option.

I can thoroughly recommend Leah @ Coles. I'll get her number from my daughter and PM you... She's the wife of Glenn Pennyfather, so a nice little Southend connection there.

Word of warning, getting a driving test is a nightmare at the moment...

I was hoping you would be asking for any confessions

I think I've sent you a PM with the number, but I'm not 100%. If you don't get it, let me know. Cheers.

Word of warning, getting a driving test is a nightmare at the moment...

My son had his test booked for April, took ages to get it then covid ruined it. At least as DVLA cancelled it they gave him one for August

His driving instructor asked the date then said he was away. My son blew him off and is going to get another instructor near the time.

He is driving around in my wife's car for now with her next to him. He's actually a really good driver and no doubts in him passing but I think he needs a few brush up lessons pre the test to iron out and issues that will get flagged on the test.

His lessons were costing a fortune, 2 hour lessons weekly at £50 a week really adds up. That said, it has worked. I feel safe as houses when he drives

My Daughter was in a similar situation. Her test was cancelled and was given one early April which she unfortunately failed (seemingly she was cut up on a roundabout and she didn't react quick enough), and we managed to get a test for November which we've managed to get bought forward to October.

There was zero availability so we went on-line and paid for the test, without securing a date. It's called a "test on hold". We then registered on the Testi app (unfortunate name) and you are then notified of any dates released or with cancellations, hence the November booking, then now October. Dates are released randomly it seems with sometime a weeks worth of availability, sometimes just 1 or 2 slots... It's £9.99 but worth it.

Leah, to her credit, said don't book any more lessons until a couple of weeks prior to the test. Said she doesn't need to learn to drive as the failure was just bad luck. Personally I'd rather that she had semi-regular lessons to keep her hand in so to speak, so she's having one every couple of weeks.

Hope that the App helps.

We did look at an app that guaranteed you an early test but was about £20 or £30 on top of the normal fee for a test. The worry for me now is if we got an earlier test, would there be an instructor available?

We were told that as long as you put your instructors code into the test website it would know if your instructor was free but my sons instructor was insistent he was messaged before we committed. Trouble was you get a 10 min window to book and the instructor never got back within 10 mins!

Good luck to Leah on her test, hopefully she will get an earlier one still.

So my son has settled for his August test but

Could you PM me Leahs number please? My son has settled for his August test but has tried about 5 instructors now who aren't free on the day of his test

Hi DWB,
I contacted Lea Pennyfather a few weeks ago, and she didn’t have any availability until August. Hopefully you may have better luck as I’ve given up finding an instructor for now
